So awhile back I was driving home from a one hour drive when I noticed my car overheating. I pulled over and found out my car was out of coolant. So my friend picked me up and went to Walmart and I bought some coolant and put it in there. Thinking that solved the issue, we did a test drive and the car still continued to overheat. It rose all the way to the max. So we just drove it to his dorm about 5 minutes away and long story short I had to tow it back to my house. I took a video so you can see where the leak was coming out of. What could it be? Could I fix it myself? (I'm not a mechanic by any means) and whats the possible cost to fix it?

For starters, thank you for actually getting under the car and looking. Most guys can't even do that.

That said is this the actual leaking point? Or just the dripping point?

I'm not really sure where exactly on your engine that leak was. Is that by your oil pan? Driver side?

Tho your video showed the leak it didn't exactly show us where you were at.

 

That was right above the oil pan near the radiator

 

Can't tell for certain from that video, but if it's coming from the side of the engine block, above the upper oil pan, it's coming out of the water pump weep hole. You need a new water pump. It's not something an amateur should try to tackle. If you're not careful, the timing chain could slip, requiring disassembly of the entire front of the engine to fix.

 

Yes you were right, I made a mistake. It is right above the oil pan. At the very top near the weld.

 

Have a shop look at it. Make sure it's not just the t-stat or a hose leaking.

 

Yea I can't think of anything in that area. Common leaks are the t stat and pump but they are not in that area.
