Default Hey Just got a 04 G35 6spd, needs motor. Q's...

Just picked up a clean 2004 G35 6speed but needs a motor. What is a direct swap?
I hear there are some VQs with variable valve timing on intake and exhaust and some dont, what about 6speed vs auto?

I'm going to go searching for one but I want the least complicated swap.

Thanks for your knowledge

-Mike

my 2006 G couple has the "RevUp" which has the VVT exhaust..........I'm not sure about the 2004. Most 350z's had what known as the "De" VQ35. Trouble is the Revups had a known oil consumption issue. So a used engine might not be ideal.

The most fun would be the HR swap but would involve a custom harness...........I THINK I have read about some guys using a DE and modifying to allow.

Do some google searches on "Revup to de vq35 swap" and report back.

Any VQ35DE minus the RevUp should fit just fine. Not entirely sure about one out of an auto.

Thanks guys. So after a day of internet searching I have found out the 03 and 04 had VVT on the intake only and that is what I need to make the swap simple.
far as the auto vs 6 speed, not sure. Where is the pilot bearing in these motors? In the flywheel ot in the crankshaft?
