All who have taken delivery: Has the Z really got it?
I ordered in April, expect delivery in 3 weeks or so. Since there is an increasing number of people who've taken delivery of their Zs and had time to break them in, it's time to ask this question.
I plan to go by Nissan's recommendations, keep rpm below 4k, (using the shift light) until 1200 miles, then bump up the rpm by 500 rpm a day after that until 6k, using up to 50-75% throttle, no WOT until about a week after it's broken in. Once it's broken in, you can safely take it to readline using wide open throttle to check out the heart of the 350Z, to see what your VQ35DE really has. I'd like to do this soon, but until then, what do you think?
Listen, lets forget about the numbers, any engine can always generate more power, and don't compare the Z to any other car. There will always be cars that are faster and slower than the Z. I'm talking about the seat-of-your pants feeling of acceleration. Gut feeling, does the Z have what it takes to make you happy? Is it enough power? Is it easy to go quickly through the gears with the short shifter? Is it fun to drive?
I'm anxious to break mine in and find out for myself. So tell me, forget numbers, forget other cars, is it enough power to make you happy?

i'll be honest. With 600+ miles on it, i go past 4K quite often. I'm not really worried about doing a "proper" break -in. Just as long as i'm not really drivng the hell out it i should be fine.
But...to each his own.

I just picked mine up today and agree with all the "power" comments in other posts, but the thing that most impressed me was the way it handles a winding road. Even my wife commented "it's like the tires are glued to the road" as we went around a curve going ~50 MPH.
I drop ~$30K for an extra car (I didn't sell my current car), I'm doing 50-60 on a winding road, and my wife comments about the car being "glued to the road". Life is good!

Is it fun? Does a bear **** in the woods? Does the Pope wear a funny hat?
When's the last time you owned a car that would step out side-ways with the tires spinning as it tries to hook up from a standstill launch? I haven't had this much fun in my car since I was sixteen and owned a '64 Ford Fairlane coupe with a 302.
If Nissan would have raised the price (Nissan MSRP, NOT dealer "adjustment") by $5K, I probably would have paid it after one test drive.

This car is simply awsome!! You're gonna love it. The engine/trans is very turbine like and 'makes the right sounds - sometime I drive with the windows down just to hear it. You look forward to stop lights just so you can accelerate again. This may not only be the car of the year but of the decade - it's that good.
A GREAT value - easily worth 5 to 10 k more. Even the Bose sounds good if you invest in a few CD's - Little Feat's "Waiting for Columbus" sounds really good - just stay away from the radio button.

This car is worth every penny. Every single morning I can't wait to go to the garage and get in the car. I had to drive my other car for a couple of days while the 3M was being installed. I appreciate the Z even more now. Every time I accelerate or downshift to pass someone, the grin grows bigger. And the car does stick to the road. I really don't think you are going to be disappointed!
