When I was looking for one last year, there's definitely an problem with used Z's in the midwest. Almost every single Z33/Z34 I looked at older than 5-6 years old was beat to ****. It wasn't until I started looking at NISMO's, that I was seeing vehicles that were really cared for. I looked at a few used NISMO's (including the one I bought with 28k miles) that still had new car smell. Of course, that puts you in the $20K+ range.

I looked at a Z33 where the guy (probably around 20 years old) was selling one with a turbo in it. In the pic online it only showed the passenger side. So I get there and from the drivers side door back, it looked like he hit a guard rail and he's trying to ask $15k for it because he put $10k into it. No only that, but there was something up with the trans too. This was not the only one I looked at with a situation like this. There's also a lot of people out there (Including dealerships) trying to sell cars labeled as NISMO, even though they aren't. So, I guess the message is like any other car be patient and do the research. WIth the Z, it will require maybe a little more patience than typical...

Tires are pricey as expected. Look for grinding gearboxes. Aim for a cared for example.

One thing I would like to suggest which helped me out tremendously is this: there is a site called like auto tempest or something, can't remember right now, that allows you to search entire regions of Craigslist. So you can search every Craigslist listing in all 50 states in maybe 15-20 minutes. Just keep checking and checking. This is helpful in finding an example with an older person owner as they only know Craigslist and to out a sign on the car out by the street. I searched this way for months before I found what I was looking for.

Cars are really old now. Over a decade for the HR. They have been surpassed. Move on to something newer unless you really want one for nostalgia!

I've been thinking about my own remarks in this thread & wanted to retract my statement about the car being a mutt. I'm becoming a little more comfortable driving it and it is deserving of more credit than I gave it. I spent a few hours in it today running errands & I didn't want to come home.

Yet another quick-in-quick-out troll thread who probably bought something else anyways. Going on 3 weeks...

I'll give a couple more days before I nuke it as "yet another useless waste of time."
