2005 350z Shifter Linkage or Transmission Porblems?
Hi, i'm having a problem with 5th and 6th gear in my 2005 350z. Whenever I put my car in 5th or 6th it won't disengage the gear. I can take the shift **** to neutral and still accelerate the car. It won't go into any other gear unless I force it or put it in reverse. If anyone can help me with this one it'll be appreciated. Again, it happens in both 5th and 6th gear.
Need to get in there and take it apart to really know, but I’d guess you have excessive play in you lower bushing. This would be a good time to upgrade your shifter.

Do you think it could be a transmission problem? I really hope not.
Has any work been done to the shifter or transmission lately? It could be something as simple as adjusting the guide plate. When I changed my clutch which involved dropping the transmission, you need to realign the guide plate when reinstalling the shift lever control assembly. Here's the proper procedure from the FSM:

Could be, but I highly doubt it, other than the linkage, those gears don’t really share anything relevant to actuating/releasing inside the trans.
If you’re unable to check it on your own (it’s not that easy), take it to a shop and explain the issue, as posted above the shifter isn’t like an old-school tower design that bolts to the trans, instead it’s made up of levers, bushings, and joints, any of which could be causing the issue.
