Default 2008 350Z Starter Replacement

I need to replace the starter in my 08 350z this weekend. Per the service manual it looks like you have to disconnect the steering knuckle to even access it. Looking for any tips or tricks to ease this replacement.

Starter replacement
Have you looked at, or do have a copy of the factory service manual?
If not recommend searching this site for for the information on how to download it. Both my computers and not available or I would post revelant information.

Good luck.

EDIT: Never mind, OP said he got the info from the FSM.

And no, you should not have to remove anything to remove the starter. Disconnect battery (use a settings keeper if you don't want to have reprogram anything, e.g. radio, other settings), disconnect cable, 14mm socket on two bolts, remove. Done. Try not to scream when it falls on hand.

I have done plenty of starter replacements on other vehicles and they are typically pretty easy.

I can find lots of help for the 03-06 350z. The 08 has a different engine and the starter is located on the driver side. Here are the steps from the service manual.

1. Open driver side and passenger windows, disconnect battery
2. Remove engine cover
3. Disconnect steering lower joint, then remove it.
4. Remove ground from starter
5. Remove S Connecter
6. Remove starter motor mounting bolts.

I am just checking to see if anyone who has worked on this particular year has discovered an easier way to do this.

Odd that they would put it on the driver's side for the HR Zs, I was not even aware of this (unless we're talking a RHD non NA market Z), My guess would be because of the change to the CSC for the clutch? Anyway, disconnecting the steering knuckle is not a big deal, just make sure you mark it's location before disconnecting and don't turn the steering wheel once disconnected. I have only worked on DE equipped Z33s, so I'm afraid I won't be of much help here, but the process shouldn't be anymore difficult aside from the clearance issues from steering knuckle.

Good Luck!
