The more the better. I think for us car fanatics, you have to have a pretty good cheap car to keep you happy during the saving years. And be strict about it like a diet!!

I was just browsing bat history and several Audi R8 5.2s have sold for 80k recently. Don't know the first thing about Audis but just for comparison. I do know a bit about Porsche turbos which are in that same price range. The turbo is in between a Carrera 4S and a GT3. not even going to talk about the GT3 RS or GT4 RS which are astronomical. The turbos are at the bottom of their depreciation curve right now. The like 997s.

I do feel like this is doable. especially for anyone who has spent a lot on their hobby car. I'm probably going to do this. but I have to pay off a few things first.

oh, btw, apologies to the OP for somewhat going OT here. I think this is sort of related but maybe not what you were asking for.
hey you got it, this is my thinking too. 10 years down the road I’ll have wished I invested the 20k, kept my Z clean and stock, maintained it well, and not put any extra money into it.

its already supercharged, and most of the upgrades are from previous owners. The only time I add something is for repair, eg my power dropped to 150hp and no mechanic could figure it out. The tuner said my cat was clogged, threw Berk HFCs in and bam, problem solved.

I love McLarens and Lambos, and I’d rather buy once cry once. The Z is a great car and in the short time I’ve had it I already learned a lot about performance driving.

im going to appreciate my roadster for what it is, a really fun cruising car that’s a great value. My track time will either be on iRacing in my sim rig or at Mosport in Formula 1200s.

you’re right about the track, that was the only time I’ll make the mistake of crossing my fingers. It was a dumb move

I’ll be happy driving the Z, saving my money, investing, and growing my company. Maybe I’ll sell my car and my business in 10 years and buy something wild. Unless these really appreciate in value though I’ll probably keep it for nostalgia. It’s a great car even if it isn’t the fastest

I don't know if it has to do with COVID or what, but the high-end models don't depreciate at all anymore. unless someone is putting heavy miles on them which is rare. a 992 GT3 RS actually goes up in value every year because the demand is so high. they're bringing about 300k now. in a recent auction sale of the white collection, a 991 went for a million dollars. it was a high option model, I think 600k but still that's a huge ROI. they just put every ridiculous option you could possibly imagine on the car. like leather wrapped vent vanes.
Porches steadily went up in value during covid and during the Ukranian war. I was told that Porsche out-sources their wiring harness to a company based in Ukraine. With the Russian attacks the factories basically shut down. But you’re still correct - essentially supply & demand

UPDATE:

Engine is swapped, steering rack is replaced, driver's side headlight is fixed, MAF error repaired, car has passed safety inspection. Cost updates below.

If I had taken better care of my car this money could've been put into upgrades and the motor wouldn't have blown at the track day. Buy once cry once everybody, don't push too hard unless you've prepared your car to handle it. Going forward I am taking no chances and making this car a solid 400 WHP fun summer cruiser.

Step one, repair, rebuild, refresh. Get the car back to stock condition inside and out, mechanically and cosmetically. This phase will likely take me the entire season this year, and I will start with upgrades in 2025 if I am still interested in the project.
