Are problems widespread?
Are the tranny and feathering problems actually as wide spread as they seem on this forum?........ or is it like any other product you buy. There will be problems with some but not all and when people are upset, they want to sound off.
I guess I am looking for reassurance I am not buying problems.
I am trading in my RX8 this week for a Z and noticed my 8 has the same tires as the Z.... I never looked until today but I noticed the tires are noticably worn on the outside with only 5,600 miles on it.
I wonder if the 8's are going to have the same feathering issues??????????

Picked up my Zed in May 03. I'm not too happy with the sound quality of the Bose but other than that not a single problem.
As you've said with any product the ones you hear about are the ones with problems as people without any issues aren't as vocal. The problems do exist but they're not present in every vehicle.
So why are you getting rid of the RX-8? It was one of the other top contenders when I was shopping around.

Re: Are problems widespread?
Same here...no problems since new. 28 days, 1150 miles (only 50 to go and I'll celebrate with sweet acceleration).
I still bought the Z after reading that huge, honkin' 2500-post thread about the tire issues. I feel if that's the worst defect this car has, it's still a great car at a great deal. I won't know for another few thousand miles if my fronts are gonna feather, but if they do, I'm prepared to handle it well thanks to the experts on the issue who post here regularly. In the meantime, this is a GREAT car for the money.
Buy it; you won't regret it. Awesome, fun car!

I bought the 8 in the auto and began to regret it about a month after I got it. A car like the 8 and the Z need to be driven and not ridden and ride is all you do with an auto. I did intend to get the 8 mt until I drove the Z.....wow!!!! What a difference. The 8 is a little smoother but I have grown more power hungry.
