Default Is Color Blending Neccessary?

My car was in a recent fender bender...I need a whole new bumper and a driver's side fender. My car is only 6 months old, and the body shop I went to said that the job would cost me $1500 (just for paint and install...not new parts) at least because he would have to color blend basically half of the car. Is this neccessary for a good job? Just wanted to make sure he wasn't trying to pull a fast one.

If you want it to somewhat match that is the only way to do it. If not it will not match and will show up real easy. I acn go oevr it futher if you need details as to why?
Thanks Mike

You do NOT need to blend the bumper as paint reflects slightly differently off plastic than it does metal. You do have to blend the fender though.

My LeMans has all the paint matching so I don't know which one you saw. As far as the blending, I went to get an estimate for my keyed door and they said they had to repaint the entire side in order to blend the colors. They said if I didn't, you would definitely tell a difference no matter how good the painter is (that last part I don't believe).

the lines on the car create illusions of different colors all teh time

if you blend it it should end up being the same as when it came but you will be paranoid only cause u knew it was repainted

if u dont blend youl will be doubly paranoid

and you have lemans so i would suggest it...if u dont you will get a half *** job

If you want it right blend it period. There is no way to match the paint on your car perfectly. If you stop at a body line it will make the panels stand out. Lets say you repair the fender. If you do not blend into the door and hood it will stand out as a painted part. If you blend it ,it will not have that harsh stop line and makes it hard to tell in most instances. To blend they basically sand the clear of the parts they are blending to and lightly dust the color over into the next panel and then they reclear all of it. This does not give a break up line and hence the panel or part blends in.
Thanks Mike
