My car was in a recent fender bender...I need a whole new bumper and a driver's side fender. My car is only 6 months old, and the body shop I went to said that the job would cost me $1500 (just for paint and install...not new parts) at least because he would have to color blend basically half of the car. Is this neccessary for a good job? Just wanted to make sure he wasn't trying to pull a fast one.

If you want it to somewhat match that is the only way to do it. If not it will not match and will show up real easy. I acn go oevr it futher if you need details as to why?

liek wren57 said the bumpers front and rear and side rocker panels(skirts) are different colors than the main body on most of the different colors on the Z's
Chrome silver and le mans sunset are the worst!
i had a 6 inch place on my rear fender repainted chrome silver and i specificly asked them not to blend it. cause i thought that would make it worse. well they didnt and i think the fender looks fine so i would not blend panels unless you absolutely have too.
also off topic..wren57 how's that nismo shifter doin?

the lines on the car create illusions of different colors all teh time
if you blend it it should end up being the same as when it came but you will be paranoid only cause u knew it was repainted
if u dont blend youl will be doubly paranoid
and you have lemans so i would suggest it...if u dont you will get a half *** job

If you want it right blend it period. There is no way to match the paint on your car perfectly. If you stop at a body line it will make the panels stand out. Lets say you repair the fender. If you do not blend into the door and hood it will stand out as a painted part. If you blend it ,it will not have that harsh stop line and makes it hard to tell in most instances. To blend they basically sand the clear of the parts they are blending to and lightly dust the color over into the next panel and then they reclear all of it. This does not give a break up line and hence the panel or part blends in.
