Just got back from our 30th anniversary trip to Las Vegas (1600 miles total)...I was the poster of the "I thought I was gonna love this car" thread a while back, but...I LOVE THIS CAR! A few observations ('03 Track):

1. The VQ35DE is da man! What an engine! Power everywhere, and 26 mpg @ 85-90 mph with A/C on. Didn't buy for mileage, but it means efficiency, etc. Used almost no oil, just ran beautifully. Love it.

2. Left-lane hogs abound. What is it about setting the cruise on 76 mph and parking in the left lane?

3. Get a good radar detector! Saved my fanny between Death Valley Junction and Pahrump.

4. Where are the RX8's? They win the tests but I didn't see a SINGLE ONE the whole trip! Saw a buncha 350Z's, though.

5. Fitted Yokohama AVS ES100's before trip...worked darn well. Too early for a feathering check, however.

6. The Track is not a quiet car, but the road noise didn't really bother me or the wife during a 600-mile day.

7. Found out just how lousy the audio system (non-Bose) really is...good thing I didn't expect much.

8. After a week of driving it's amazing just how much brake dust you can generate (Hawk HPS's on the horizon).

9. Scared the wife going 120 mph...good thing she wasn't sitting behind me at 150 mph on my Aprilia Mille (the Ducati-killer).

We had a great time, and the verdict is in: I LOVE THIS CAR!!

 

Who says RX-8 wins all the tests?

 

I was being figurative, I guess. It has won the few comparisons that I've seen recently, but certainly not all. I'm NOT trying to start yet another 350Z v. RX8 discussion here.
