Angry Cicadas this summer

So this is the year that the cicadas come back. Guts, exoskeletons, guts, and bug **** all over everything for the entire summer. I dont even want to drive my car this summer, and I definitely need to get a car cover. I heard that a lot of the U.S. doesnt get affected by the cicadas, but it sucks for those that do. They only come every 17 years and I just got my Z this year! About a month ago. Oh well, just my luck. I wanna move to Cali, I heard they get none of them red eyed bastards

There is more than one cycle to the birth of the Cicadas. This is brood 10 of 13, I think. The last bad year here in VA was 96, if I remember correctly.

This brings up an interesting point though....With frequent washings being inevitable, how often does the Zaino need to be applied to keep the ol' crappy Nissan paint protected?

I remember the last hatch like it was yesterday. I spent whole days lighting them on fire and throwing them into traffic and shooting them with 'bb' guns. It's amazing what I found interesting 17 years ago. I just read an article that said if you get them before they harden, while they are still white, they taste like asparagus. Anyone try this?

Hehe, ah the memories of lighting insects on fire.

I really despise those jurassic creatures though... Hopefully I'll have a beater car by then... Is it July / August that they hatch, or is it earlier in the summer season?

I don't know about billions, but the darn things leave their skins all over my house and deck every year, and they make so much noise you have to crank up the T.V. if you want to hear Simon slamming this week's American Idol hopefuls.

How come they say every 17 years but we had them in 96 or 97 as well. It seems to me their clocks are off or something

There are different "broods" and then there are different species. So, one "clan" will lay eggs and those will come out in 17 years, but there are other "clans" that are also on the 17 year schedule, but didn't lay there eggs on the same year.

Confusing...

I don't want to sound ignorant, but I didn't even know this things existed. So these bugs make noise, shed their skin, and explode when you touch them? Is that right?

hahaa its okay, youre lucky not to know about them cause they suck. They make a loud chirping noise, shed their exoskeletons, and are pretty hard and can be handled but if they break all of their guts go everywhere, yellow, green, everywhere. Not looking forward to this summer, and meets are gonna host some of the dirtiest Zs ever ahaha

I remember those things. The last time they came out here in Maryland was 1987. I hope they don't return. What the Hell do they do for those 17 years underground

yeah once they are touched by human hands they blow up. has something to do with them being in the ground for 17 years.......

but yeah if these things swarm in the streets then that would definitely be a problem. dings and bug splatter.....tasty...
