origin of the 350z engine?!?
hey everyone, i heard off a friend that the 350z engine is from renault?! is this correct, and if so does that also mean that the maxima engine is also renault, and even maybe the next gen GTR?

I've heard some say that as well, but I've never yet see anyone post definitive info.
The closest real data I've found are SAE design papers on the VQ35 that were written by engineers with Japanese names. Also, the VQ family of engines was in existence long before Nissan was bought out by Renault. It probably doesn't matter too much anyway.

I believe it's actually from the VE 3.0 engine. The VQ 3.5 shares a lot of the bottom parts off the 3.0...or is it the top? Anyhow, that engine has been around forever.

From my subjective interpretation of what customers tell me, when Renault bought out Nissan, it because profitable by cutting costs from nice interior features to quality control issues.
You can see the differerence between a 1997 Maxima and a 2004 maxima in build quality just by measuring the gaps between anything and touching the interior features.
