This question has been posted many time, but since the search option is not working, I am gonna have to ask it again.

Dealer made deep gouges on my rim, they are offering to "redip" and refinish my rims, all 4 of them.

Should I take the offer?

I've had one wheel repaired like that on my Ford Probe, the other 3 wheels stayed ok, but the one that was repaired started chipping after 3 years.
I am worried about the level of finishing quality will not be as high as factory.


Is it a good offer? Should they REPLACE the wheels? If so, what do I say?

I would have them give you credit for the full value of your stock wheels and pay a little more to have them replaced with the Nismo LM GT-4s.

Looks like they squeezed a socket that is wider than the lug nut hole, as it spins, deep round gouges are made all the way around.

I see what you are saying, you broke it, you fix it.

But what happens if I were to scuff some one else's car door, would it seem unreasonable if he ask me to replace the whole door, right?

i am very frustrated, I actually made an effort letting them know not to wash my car, and made the manager walk out and inspect my car before I gave it to them.

All I ask is that I get my car back the same way I gave it to them.

Are these rims the stock rims? Are they chromed? What do you mean redip? If it's just a surface scratch on the factory painted rims, I think it could be repaired by a competent body shop or rim repair place without any trace. It's just a paint and clearcoat. Now if you are taking chromed rims, or the track wheels, then that's another story.

Hehe. I know, you mean well. But, I wan't joking.

If they damaged them and you are willing to pay a little extra after being given credit for the stock wheels, they should be happy to sell you the GT-4s. The GT-4s can be had for about $1,800. If your stock wheels are worth $1,300, I'd try to negotiate paying them $500 for the GT-4s and giving them your stock wheels to do as they please. They might treat this as a win-win because it's an additional sale.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

He's exactly right. I've done the same with the front bumper on a friends M3, which the dealer crunched. He paid the difference to get the Euro spec bumper/ splitter combo on it, which the dealership was happy to do.

Yeah, but I'm going to assume they didn't gouge all 4 rims? I just noticed when I washed my car today that my dealer gouged my rims when they did the replacement tires on mine. I'm going to ask for reimbursement, but I don't think I'll be asking for GT-4's.

this just happened to me. Theyre replacing it. They wanted to repair it at first. I said absofuuckinlutlynot.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!


I agreed to let them REPAIR it, they promised that they will sandblast it, redip it and bake the wheels. That was 3 days ago.

They called me saying my car is done, when there, found out that they chipped one of the wheel AGAIN after it's repaired.
The repainted wheels are little darker in color. Instead of "gouging" it, now if you ding it a little bit, piece of paint will simply chip off.

At the place where they chipped it, you can clearly see that the new layer of paint is very thin, and they did not sandblast the original layer, pretty much a spray on paint job with clear coat over the original wheel.
There is also a bubble on the front passenger wheel, I pressed on it, and IT BROKE!!!!!!!!!! With the messed up original layer underneath.

Now I get really really pissed off, they first offered to repair it again! I said no, I want new ones, today.
At the end, we agree on that they replace mine with wheels from a Z on the floor.
(I wonder which poor guy will buy it )

Gonna pick up the car in a couple hours, will keep you guys updated....

I had this happen to my fronts, and they bought me a new set. The good thing was I noticed it before I left the dealer, and they were the only ones that had touched those wheels.

Of course, in remounting the new wheels, they also ruined the tire pressure sensors.

That was an expensive little screwup

This same dealer wouldn't do anything for another board member here when they damaged his wheels. I think he went back later, though. Like I said, I luckily caught mine and made them put it on the work order before I took the car back.

BTW, now, when I take the car in, we inspect the wheels for condition before I leave the car with them, then I look them over before I leave. They probably hate me

At the beginning, they used the analogy of ¡§if we scratch your door, are we gonna replace your door or paint it?¡¨
But now that it is proven their ¡§redip¡¨ is horse$hit.

They wheels came off of a car that has 5 miles on it, I think it was a good thing for me to take it and not having to wait any longer.

Oh, I picked up my car earlier today, wheels are perfect. Happy yet not happy.
Prolly not gonna go there anymore.

I might suggest that we start a list of bad dealerships etc on this forum. You should post the problem you had, and the rest of us can do the same. I've seen a great deal of effect come out of this with Honda and Bimmer dealers...

I would say that they are a bad dealership.

-They replaced my feathered front tires, no questions asked.
-They did repair my rims TWO DAYS AFTER I got the car back,
-I wouldn't blame them for trying to repair it first.
-And they did replaces it after 20 min of discussion today.

It really is the mechanic's fault not being careful, but the dealership did take responsibility of it. Can't really ask for more.

Just hoping that nothing on my car will ever go wrong again, so I don't have to take it anywhere.
