Smile Stupid Speed Cameras

Since the search is down, and I know I have seen posts about this before I was wondering what people used to block their liscense plate from having the picture taken?

Oh yeah and fix the search!

Default no front plate

I run with no front plate.

A fixit ticket for a front plate is WAY cheaper than a speeding ticket.

No such device, despite adverts to the contrary.

I know this works; Go to the hardware store just buy a can of aresol clear coat. Give the plates a few coats. I know this works because they used to have photo cop here in Vancouver before the new Government promised to toss it out if they got elected.
Twice I drove buy the van about 15 MP/H over, saw the flash, no ticket.
I`m not sure if it would work during the day though. Both times for me were at dusk and at night.
Here they always parked the vans in the same places, and they could be spotted miles away during the day, so it wasnt a problem.

I've seen a license plate cover called a Photobuster for sale at the local Kragen. It works like the computer CRT privacy screens - the plate is only readable from directly face on, so any cameras trying to take a photo of the plate at an angle will end up looking like this:

You can find more information at http://www.photobuster.com.

However - I don't recommend using these products, because the legality of these things is highly questionable, and you may get pulled over at any time for covering your plate with these things.

yeah i have seen cars around here that have them, but it is really rare. I am pretty sure they are illegal here. That is why I want to opt for some kind of ghetto hardware store spray, the less obvious it is, the better

ok ok so I was looking on the internet and found this:
http://www.phantomplate.com/photoblocker.html

How does that compare to just clear coat? Anyone know what the photoblocker is made of?

FYI they are installing speed cameras all over my freaking city..

This product came up a few months back. I didn't pay too much attention, but I seem to remember people saying it didn't work too well.

I'm not condoning the use of the Speed Cameras, Rob, but there is a little bit of a silver lining.

If you get busted by one of Charlotte's new speed cameras, the fine will only be $50 and you get no points on your license or insurance. Supposedly, the fines will be put toward the Mecklenburg County school system.

anywho... if you find something that works on your tag, let me know!

I think the money should go towards roads, if it did, maybe I wouldn't consider spraying my plate down!

You might want to check on the legality of the clear plate cover.
Some states they are not allowed.
If you want to test if the clear coating works, stand about were the photocop is away from your car with a digital camera and take a pic. I did this first and I just saw a white square.

i definetly dont think those are to legal. especially if a cop see it, you are definetly getting a ticket for whatever reason you got pulled over for. the only way to tell if it works is keep going past the cameras and see if you get a ticket i guess.

So can you get points on your liscense for any of those red light cams or speed cams? cause I am pretty sure I have one coming for being in the intersection when the light turned. It was in Maryland if that matters.

In Charlotte, they have said directly that the speed camera ticket will not put points on your license or insurance. It only produces a fine which, I assume, they send you a bill in the mail for.
