Unhappy Maybe selling my Z, Need Advice

My Z will be paid for in about 6 months and I was thinking of selling her and getting something else. More than likely it will be an 05 Model. BTW, my car has 2481 miles and I bought it 11 Jun 03. I wonder how much I can get for it with or without the stereo system?

The reason I want to sell my 03 Coupe is I need cruise control and I wouldn't mind the HID's and leather. No cruise is getting old. I have taken one road trip and it was a major pain on my legs without cruise. Main thing is really the cruise. I have yet to find anyone to put OEM cruise on my base model.

Here are my possible pics. Plus I am done with the stereo upgrade thing and want a vehicle with a pretty good factory system. I haven't heard the BOSE in the 04's, so I will try them first. Here are my picks.

Keep in my mind, I already have an 02 Maxima and its the family car. Since the Maxima has been paid off for a while, my price range is $25-40K.

What is a must in the car is Navigation, complete stereo sytem so I dont have to upgrade it, and leather.

Here's the picks. Thanks for any advice.

1. 05 Touring Roadster with all options, 18" and NAV.
2. 05 350Z Track Model with NAV (bad thing is no premium stereo)
3. 05 350Z Touring with every option
4. 05 Mustang GT convertible (don't go there folks, it looks appealing)
5. 05 Mustang Cobra Coupe, convertible is too expensive.

I am looking for pretty much a 2 seater or 2-door. I wish I could afford the M-3, thats a little outta my price range.

BTW, everything I get from selling the Z will be used for a down payment. My wife and I agreed to not go over $40K for a vehicle and we will use the large down payment from the Z. So I would roughly be looking at financing around $20K or so.

Thanks again for any suggestions. Should I remove the stereo system or try and sell it with it? Over $4K has been put in my Z.

Yeah I know call me stupid, but I have been thinking of this for a few months now. I just really need cruise.

I screwed up when I first got it, was suckered by the dealer thinking it was a deal of a lifetime. Well you get the point.

I had a Brickyard Touring on order, 3 month wait (I wish I woulda stuck with that deal, but I didn't want to wait 3 months and this pretty little PPW was in the back of the dealership with a sold sign on it. They called me that afternoon saying the 03 out back was up for sell and I jumped on it like a dumbass. Drove it home 2 hours later. Oh well, live and learn.

I know I will lose $, but the main thing is I will get what I want, not what a dealer shoves in my face. Live and learn, live and learn.

I say go with the Track with Nav but I'm biased. On the other hand, for the price of a track with nav it wouldn't be too much more for a sightly used M3.

You got her in June and only have 2481 miles? I got mine in July, stored her for the winter, and have about 5100 miles. Seems like yours was strictly a weekend car when not in storage. I say go for the Roadster if it won't be a daily driver.

You got it, weekend driver only, never seen rain or snow for that matter.

I was leaning towards the roadster but the dealer will not budge off of MSRP.

I called John Elway South Nissan in Denver, and they quoted me an 04 PPW Touring 6Spd Coupe with all options, NAV, and aero package for $35600. BTW, Invoice is $33951. They said they could have it in a day.

04 Track Model with Nav is $36680, Invoice is $34333.

Quote for an 04 Touring Roadster with every option was $40,350. They will not budge one penny.

I wonder what I can get them down too on the coupes since they won't budge on the Roadster?

The only thing I don't like about the Roadster is when the top is up. It just does not look right.

Also they want an $8K non-refundable downpayment to order a Z. Said it will take 3-4 months from the factory. Hmmmm.

Thoughts?

Try another dealer, 8k to order is insane. I paid $500 deposit to order my Z.

Wow, I went to NADA.com and they quoted me this for trade-in value. They gave me $850 for low miles.

2003 Nissan 350Z-V6-6 Spd. Coupe 2D
2,500 miles

Average Trade-In Average Retail
Base Price $24,650 $28,100

Mileage Adjustment
2,500 miles add: $850 $850

Certification and Extended Warranties
Total Price $25,500 $28,950

So what will the dealer give me or I wonder how much I can get private party?

Also, anyone know the changes to the 05 Models?

The no-haggle Z's I saw at John Elway were all way overpiced.
Try St Johns Nissan, new dealer in Englewood 303-762-9922, ask for John Wheeler, he hooked me up.
Also when I bought a month ago, Tynans Nissan had a ton of Z's in inventory and were willing to deal. I had a bad experience with Tynan's VW so went with St Johns.

Default That may not be necessary

Ok, I heard before that if you upgrade the steering wheel from the base model the cruise control will work - I remember reading that a nissan tech did this. i'd search this board for the post. This makes sense, since the cars have the same wiring harness and all have drive-by-wire throttle anyway. My suggestion to you would be to look in the service manual to see if the connection for cruise exists on the base model. If it does, find yourself a nice steering wheel from a salvaged car or someone who replaced it for racing. I believe even a new steering wheel is under $1500 and you will be losing far more than that if you go to sell.

The thing is you have so few miles, you'll be losing a ton of money after barely enjoying the car! Also you can add leather seats for around $6-700 installed, and you can add an aftermarket navigation + stereo for around $2-3k installed...and that stereo will be far better than any factory job. Xenon kits for the Z are widely available and are cheap, and use better bulbs than the factory xenons!

So if you got a steering wheel w/cruise for around $500, leather seats for $700 installled, navi for $2500 installed, and xenons for $500 your total outlay would be around 4k. I bet you'd lose about that much just selling your car...and that's not including the difference in price b/w your car and the new one you'd be buying! Just thought this might be an option that saves you a lot of dough and a lot of headache. All of these things are easily installed as well! I def understand if you just wanna get a new car too though...lol

Hmmm, I will check into the cruise thing. Youa re right, I will lose money, I am still debating.

If anyone sees anything about upgrading to cruise, please let me know. That will def. save me from trading it in.

Thanks again,

Charles

You will, unfortunately take a big hit the 1st year after purchase. KBB, etc will give you an inflated estimate of the car's trade in value. Most dealers use Graves as a guide (auction prices). I found the best time to sell a car like the 350Z is during the warm months. The closer to the Fall and Winter the lower the value of a sports car. Selling privately will probably get you the most but trading in helps on the sales tax end. You pay sales tax on the difference between purchase price and trade in value.
Use KBB as guide, for example, if the value of your car according to KBB is $30,000 take off abou $3,000 and you will have an idea of what a dealer will give you. Good luck, and for what it's worth , stay away from 1st year models remember what happened to us pre-order Zcar owners.

Yeah man, i'd hate to see you lose money when you could easily update your car to what you need. Plus I'd hate to lose another cool PPW owner! LOL

We have done aftermarket cruise before in used cars (not Z's, but other Nissans). It doesn't look OEM, but it works. Call around, someone up there should be able to do it. The steering wheel idea makes sense too.

I have a Base, too, but I don't mind the lack of cruise control (all hwy miles also). I'd get a 2003 Brickyard Track, which is about $29,900 on Autotrader with 10,000 miles. One more thing, I just ordered a 5000k HID kit from importhookup.com and I'll be posting the install next week.
