Default Someone hit my f*#%ing car

OK, not my 350z, but it was my 350z's soon to be replacement. I've decided to sell my 350Z and was just waiting till I got the other car running.

I recently bought a '91 300ZX which needed a new engine. Well, I pulled the old engine out last weekend and the new engine arrived today. So, I get home from picking the engine up at the freight office and what do I find. Someone hit my g0dd@mn car.

I live on a street with a bunch of geriatric mutherf***ers and I'm sure one of their blind @sses hit it. The car didn't have a single dent on it, and now look.

Anyone, that does bodywork got any idea how much this is going to cost? I hadn't even got the car registered or insured yet.

Jesse (is going to secretly look at everyone of these geriatrics cars for damage so I can confront them)

Go around to everyone's house on the block and ask about it. Maybe someone heard or saw it. Also watch their cars and look for one with damage. I'll bet they have a messed up bumper too. Was there any paint transfer? Maybe you can tell what colour car hit you by examining the damage.

Just some thoughts.

I know the feeling, I had my car keyed last weekend. 470 bucks is the estimate. Less than insurance deductable, but still 470 bucks I shouldn't have to pay.

The weird thing was there wasn't any paint transfer, unless the car was white. It's very weird damage IMO. It only hit the bumper in the corner, no other damage on the bumper and then there's the big dent up higher. Almost like a tall truck of some sort. Can't really tell though.

that is a very strange dent? i would be looking for a van or truck judging by the height of the dents. and hey, Thanks. being in the Army and all, I don't know if you served any time over in the middle east or not, but still, Thanks. You all have much respect from me.

I think it will be around 600 I think , the bumper just leave it, compound and buff it out... use some touch up paint maybe. Sorry to see this, these people will get what they deserve, what goes around comes around.

Well, just called my insurance company because somebody on 350Zfrenzy mentioned my insurance might cover it even though I haven't added the car to my policy yet. It has to go through a "determination process", but it does have a chance of being paid. If the damage is only $600 though, my deductibles are $500. Not really worth it IMO.

Jesse (thinks insurance companies are scam artists and doesn't really hold out much hope)

Sorry to see you exit the bretheren Jesse. I hope after you sell you will stick around here. Your input on this car and especially on FI has been invaluable to me and I'm sure to many others.

I'll still hang out, and I'll always have a Z, although, not a 350.

I'd be very surprised if you insurance company covers it. I think your looking more towards $1000 for the repairs. That's a good 4-6 hour dent in the 1/4 panel along with some repair time to the bumper cover. You will also have some blend time along with R&I's. I'm not sure what the shop charges in your area, but where I live they are getting $36/hour for body & paint time. It adds up pretty quick.

p.s. I'm a claims adjuster for an auto insurance company, so I write estimates everyday.

$1000 huh? Well, I figured it probably wouldn't be much less. This truly sucks, because I bought the car for $2400. $750 for the engine, $120 for a radiator. Now I've got to blow another $1000 to get the car back to how it looked when I originally bought it, less than 3 weeks ago and I haven't even got to drive it yet.

Jesse (is afraid of what he'll do to the person, if he finds out who hit his car)

Jess, if the cost to repair that damage (make it "new" again) is anything like a 350Z, then it'll be in the upper $3K range (if dont be a reputable shop). The problem is that the rear fenders have to be cut out since they're spot welded in place from the factory. On my Z, I had my rear right fender, bumper replaced, and a big dent in my other fender fixed for a total of $4444.34. This was done by a very nice shop, and the insurance company didn't even ask twice about it...
