Default Is a Z still a Z if...

If you swap out the engine for another engine, regardless of what is put in, is a Z still a Z?

Opinions?

Sure. You're not going to change the VIN on the car, right? Based on the VIN, it's still a Z.

Well, technically it's still a Z sure. But dous public opinion change if you take a 350Z and replace the VQ35 motor with say a Hemi? That is if you could fit a Hemi into the engince compartment hehhe

Dous anyone else see where I am going with this?

Don't know exactly where you're going, but if the question is, "Is the Z still a Z in the eyes of other Z owners if you drop a different engine in it?", then I think the answer would still be yes (unless it's the engine out of a Ford Pinto or something).

If you were the first to manage to shoehorn a Hemi into your car, I'd imagine you'd be a topic of much discussion here on the forums. The threads would be something like "Z with Hemi at xxxx Z meet", and that being the case, then they just labeled it still a Z, right?

Its just not a stock Z....

If you do any mod to a car, it could be argued that your car is no longer a "_____" be it a Z, Camaro, Mustang, RX8 etc....

Well, I would like to pose the question:

Is a 9-second civic still a civic?? Those pro-drag guys call their cars what they are, celicas, civics, etc... but whats the point?? Its not even a civic shell, its plastic that looks like a civic... I dunno.

Discuss.

It is still a Z... Basically I just think of it as a HEAVILY modded Z.

Now when it comes to races, that is a different story... you can't go around and say "Z beat Carrera GT" and not mention that it has a total engine swap and that a stock Z couldn't do this if it's life depended on it.

edit: Oh, and spinners = teh suck
