Uh???? Is that IN the intake? Wouldnt you then be sucking in excess CO2 which would probably negate all the benefit of the colder air?

No... it looks as if there is a box outside of the tubing.. and it just freezes the tubing up....

You could also use liquid Nitrogen. It goes down to about 76 Kelvin.

That CO2 will sublime pretty quick Maybe get 1 hr of cool air max.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing (the same applies to Nitrogen). I could only see it being used at the drags. People put ice all over their engines and in their radiators there, but we all know that wouldn't cool the car long enough on the streets

well, maybe a system that could be activated by a switch and freeze it instantaneously. Like right before you want to use it, flip the switch, it freezes, then you are ready for the run

or, for the people who have nitrous, they could purge the tank(s) onto the intake piping to cool it off. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone....

(FWIW, when I install nitrous on my 300ZX TT, I intend to purge the tanks into the side mount intercoolers, essentially having a silimar effect).

At school, my chem teacher dipped a marshmellow in liquid nitrogen, then pulled it out and popped it in his mouth.

It won't really hurt you unless you have a long enough exposure.

It's perfectly safe. We all breath 70% Nitrogen.

thermo electrics is the best way. you just turn it on about 2 minutes before a race or track time, and it would cool the air to below freezing temperatures. turn it off afterwords.

the only problem with themoelctrics is the heat on the opposite side of what you are cooling. all a thermoelectric plate is take heat from one side, and move it to the other, so it does not "freeze", i just removes temperature. i was going to devise an intake system for the mini useing thermo electrics, but doing it on the z right before the throttle body would be good. you would just have to insulate the opposite side. oh, and you probably couldn't touch anything in your engine bay for a bit

not for nothing, but 70% of gas being nitrogen is ok, eating liquid nitrogen(ignoring its temp) would probably not be the best for you... and yes, if you were to dip your finger in it, you would likely suffer from frost bite in seconds at most. you might be ok at those temps in a really cold freezer, but thats like holding your hand over steam from a boiling pot vs sticking your hand in the boiling water.

anyway, fine idea, while your at it, slam a bag of ice on the plenum. you can get 5-10hp if done effectively. but its strictly for racing or something, as normal use would be too much maintnence.

Has anyone considered this or even heard of it? I don't know what to make of it?
