Default Tranny Problems??

I was all set to buy a slightly used Z, when I started reading about all the 6 speed transmission problems. Has this been remedied in the 2004's? Is it as bad as it appears in these forums? Any help is appreciated. I so want to buy a Z, but can't afford to deal with tranny problems.

I have an 03 performance model with the 6 speed manual and have had no problems or concerns. I bought it used with 12k miles. It now has 16K and I've never experienced anything odd with the tranny. This is not to say that the tranny problem is isolated, cause I too have seen it mentioned a number of times in this forum. One guy mentioned that he was on his 3rd transmittion...Scarey! I just wonder how hard these guys are on their Zs?

You also have to bear in mind the nature of people. Not many people are going to start threads that say "No Problems With My Tranny". People usually post negative things, looking for advise. While I'm sure that there were tranny problems, it is not as widespread as this board would lead you to believe. Additionally, people with problems are more likely to seek out info on the web, thus you have a lot of newbies posting problems. If your car is running fine, unless you are a car enthusiast, you are less likely to post on this board. I would say that encompasses the greatest % of Z owners.

That being said, I think the number of tranny problems with the 2004 are much smaller than the 2003s.
