Default Titanium Muffler

One of the options offered in Japan is.... a Fujitsubo muffler...
all titanium version... benefits are obviously weight...50% less.

Also -- it is simply beautiful... with the Z logo on the body. Tips are ... wow.

1/ Curious as what this would translate into actual weight savings... any guesses ?

2/ One statement is... it sounds like a "titanium exhaust". I have never heard the note of a titanium exhaust.

Given that the new Z stock muffler has a pretty throaty exhaust..
does anybody have any idea (Corvette Z06 as an example) sound wiht titanium mufflers compared to regular ?

Cost of this option is... US$ 1865...

Holly crap!! Nearly 2 grand for a muffler! I'd like to see this muffler, is it possible you could scan the image you have Fairlady Z? The muffler looks fairly large, but I wouldn't think is could save much over 20 pounds if that. I'm with you on never hearing a titanium exhaust, at least knowing I was listening to a titanium exhaust.

That would be sweet, but I'd have a hard time parting with $1865 for it.

Not sure I'd want to be taking weight off the rear of the car if Nissan is revising its weight distribution stats showing a greater percentage up front.

Default Bling bling!

It would be nice to brag about titanium exhaust vs. carbon fiber + stainless.

But gosh... it would just suck if someone were to be desperate enough to steal it.

Default I thought that's what that was...

I decided to try to figure out what all the options were since I know a little Japanese, and I figured the left was the stainless steel, and maybe the right was titanium, but the translation was a little funny. Anyhow, I figured out all but one...

From left to right, the first I have no idea reads like "ashing system" yeah... second is the Momo wheel, third is Rays, fourth is Bilstein sports suspension, second row first is a white side finisher aka reflector, second is mud guard and aero rim type, third and fourth are the mufflers, third row first is a parking support system (maybe this comes with a kickstand?), second is a knee pad, and last but not least is the front side view monitor (in case you want to watch yourself driving through the dvd?)

I have no idea what the parking support system is, or the view monitor. Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about at all. It's been a few years since I used any Japanese at all so take it for what it's worth.

I do not speak the language, but from the picture I would guess that the parking system, when operated, automatically folds in the side view mirrors.

Default fold-in mirrors

Most cars have fold-in mirrors in Japan due to space ... and limitations in parking areas. There is a switch for this function.

However... an option is.. when you turn your key off.. the mirrors will automatically fold-in.

Insane price for a muffler. I did shorty headers, high flow performance cats and flowmasters for less on my stang. I hope the rest of the parts are better bang for the buck.

Just curious on the muffler, as you guys were mentiong that you wouldn't want it because it would mess up the weight balance...

Is there any guidelines as far as when it is better to lower the overall weight of the car at the expense of the weight balance?
I mean, surely changing the muffler to this one is not going to drastically change the balance, so maybe the overall weight loss is a net benefit?

Would you ever add weight to get a better balance?

I assume the ultimate solution if you had this muffler would be to also find a way to remove an equal amount of weight up front, maybe with lighter headers...

Sorry if this is a dumb set of questions, I dont know much about the science of this kind of thing. All I know is I drove a 2200 lbs. 400hp TVR for a week when I was in Scotland last year, which had terrible weight balance (65/35 I think), and WOW was it fun to drive, and handled great.
I guess we could move this discussion to the technical forum...
