Default Magical 276????

GujuCAR350 found the Dino chart @ www.zcar.com

https://my350z.com/japan/june11/page3.html

it rated the HP as being 280ps and 37kgm, which I resume to be both hp and torque. I found a conversion for the HP, which resulted in 276...this number is coeincidently the same number as the torque that we all got from Jmanz at www.my350z.com....... I found this very interesting...not sure what it exactly means.....

I got 276hp from using two methods to convert the HP. First was a direct conversion and more accurate PS ---> HP and the second was PS ---> Kw --- Hp, a greater error percentage but good for an appromixate check on numbers to make sure they are accurate...

I'm hopeing these numbers actually are AT THE WHEELS, but an ill gut feeling leads me to believe that these are FLYWHEEL values. if there is a 15% drive train loss and these ARE at the the wheels, the car should be pushing out 325hp which I think is rather unbelievable. A 10% loss would provide for 306hp, a bit more believable, but unbelievable efficency in the drive train.

I found this page
https://my350z.com/japan/june11/page5.html

while snooping futhur around, and found that the torque and horsepower peaks are EXACTLY the same as Jmanz gave us
our results are
287hp @ 6200rpm
276lb/ft @ 4800rpm

there results...
280ps @ 6200rpm
37kgm @ 4800rpm

I proceeded to try to make a number out of the kgm, unsucessful to find a conversion, I came up with a number os 240lb/ft (which would if correct come up to 282hp @ the crank assuming the torque is measured at the crank, I don't believe this number to be correct so anyone who knows how to convert kgm to lb/ft please post the correct numbers. I don't wish to create any confusion.

Method 1
Convert PS --> Kw --> Hp (greater % error)
*280ps = 206kw
(1ps = 0.735kw)
*206kw = 276.246hp
(1kw = 1.341hp)

276hp.........

Method 2
Convert PS = Hp
1hp = 1.0139ps
280ps = 276.161hp

276hp..........

isn't 276HP the number of the infamous "gentleman's agreement" between the major japanese car companies? I beleive it is, and it has been proven many times on dyno charts that many of the cars listed at that HP rating actually have more.... much more even, so the agreement is really pointless, but for some reason, they keep it up. Correct me anyone, if I am wrong, cuz I very well may be.

How do we know that the dyno is at the flywheel? I have no experience with engine mods or dynos, but what I have seen is all at the wheels, no? I don't see how we would be getting 276hp at the wheels. Could someone educate me?

JmanZ,

How did you, with that mug of yours, hook up with such a cute girl?

Good for you. Sounds like you struck gold.

I know all too well how where you are coming from. I am 35, previously married, and doing the singles thing again. I have decided to just forget about women for a while and have some fun in a new Z. I can't wait!

Jman, I got a question for ya on your numbers. If these are what Nissan's press kit states, then won't these be the numbers reported in magazines and online publications? Or are you saying that the major mags will run their own dyno tests and such? Will this create a conflict of information? I guess I'm confused as to why Nissan would release numbers that aren't right. What do you think?

Most of the time car mags will run their own tests to verify manufacturer claims (performance testing, but often not dyno tests..). I subscribe to a bunch of the mags (Automobile, R&T, C&D, MT, Autoweek, Sport Z), and this is VERY common.
