Default Problems Ordering 2005 Z

I decided to order a 05' Touring Z. I went into the dealership with exactly what I wanted. When I had came into this same dealership 2 weeks ago I was told they would be able to take my order this weekend.

Surprisingly they would not order the car for me without screwing me over. They claimed that currently they do not know what the MSRP for the '05 will be so they can't possibly give me a price. This is all coming from the "sales manager" the salesman that I was dealing with can't even believe the story the manager is feeding him, and is very cool about the whole thing. They had all the forms of the options for the 2005 Z there, but apparently not the MSRP? Additionally they said since the 05' is a new model that they will only sell the car at MSRP!! Additionally I'd have to place $1000 down to order, and if we couldn't reach a price agreement I'd forfeit the $1000. THe salesman couldn't even believe this and didn't blame me for leaving. Now I can see the 2003 when they first came out going for that price, but not a 3rd year car.

My question is for those that have ordered a 2005 did the dealership know the MSRP at that point or did you use the 2004 pricing? Also did you get a fair price on the 05'? How much off MSRP?
Sadly I wanted to buy a Z today but they weren't willing to take my money I guess. On to the next dealership I guess

Try another dealer.

I don't know about NJ, but in Cali it is illegal to take a non-refundable deposit.

If you want to pay MSRP like the dealer is asking, just have them write up the order stating that you will pay whatever the MSRP is listed at on the car when it comes in. The ordering agreement should also state that the deposit is refundable if the dealer takes longer than X months to deliver the car, but it could also state that it's non-refundable if he does deliver and you decide that you don't want to buy it at MSRP. That's what I did when I ordered my '03 from the dealer. I also had them write on the order that I would only pay Invoice Price for the 5 options that I added.

Based on the problems that you seem to have with this dealer, however, I'd seriously consider going to another one.

Good luck.

I don't think I should have to pay MSRP on a 3rd yr model. I've seen people post here that they are getting Z at $500 above invoice. I offered $800 above invoice(33,300). They wanted over $35000. When the 03' Z came out it was the hot car and the demand was huge, so MSRP makes some sense. This dealership has had 4 Z's on their lot for over 2 months and haven't been able to sell them. I think you're getting ripped off if you pay MSRP on a 05'.

it's not like you're going to have a hard time finding a z when the 05s come out, so i would just wait. they're saying msrp for an 05 so you'll buy an 04 instead.

well if you had to place a $1000 down to place an order, and you didnt order one, they get the $1000? Are you serious? I could see if you place an order, and then you cancel, but come on. You basically gave them a $1000 bucks. Honestly now i bet they could care less because they made an easy grand. Thats one F*CKED up deal right there. When i went to place an order, there was no money down until the order was placed. I could have walked out and been scott free. Wow. Thats terrible. And this was before the 04s were out and this was as soon as they got the order and pricing forms.

It was $1000 to order the car, and then we would have to work on a price once they got what the MSRP for 2005 is from Nissan. If they ordered the car, and then we didnt get a deal done than I would forfeit my $1000 deposit. I raised the question that what if you're offer is $3000.00 over MSRP and I don't take it, that means you keep my $1000? Thats when they said the price would be at MSRP, so I would know that up front. I still don't believe that they didnt know what MSRP would be. I really felt the sales manager was lying to the salesman. For the life of me I don't understand why treat someone who just wants to buy a car this way.

When I order my 04 Z in April they ask for a $1000 too but at least they order it and it came off the sticker price of course. I was able to get it just a little under MSRP $700. They were trying to tell me they don't go under MSRP for pre ordering. I told them that I wasn't going to pay sticker price or I am walking. They also gave a $200 off when I pick it up. Like I am going to wait 3 months and not pick it up. LOL Anyway I am still waiting till end of Aug for Z.

Maybe I'll stop by sometime and find out where it is or how much longer for sure.

Any of you guys who order contact the deal every now & then to find out on your Z order?

I ordered my 04 ZR at the beginning of Dec. of 2003. At that point, the dealership, which is one of those no haggle shops, was charging MSRP. I gave them a 3k refundable deposit. 8 weeks later, I found the exact car had just arrived on the lot. It wasn't mine, but they were happy to sell it to me. The had also started discounting 1k from MSRP, which they had no trouble giving me.

I went to a dealership today to try and order an 05 Performance model. I was also told they didn't have pricing information but they agreed to VPP it for me. They also wanted a $1000 non-refundable deposit and said it would be 5 months before I got it. I passed on the deal. The 05's should be hitting lots before December/January right?

From all the dealer posts I've read on various forums, the MSRP for the '05 Z isn't out yet. To a layman outside of the auto industry, it seems odd they know many of the changes, are taking orders, and don't know the MSRP. But I accept it.

Regarding your dealer experience, there are a lot of unethical dealers out there. Sad but true. I could spew at length over new car dealers but what's the point? Most of have heard of or experienced these sort of scams.

The bottom line is run, don't walk, out of that dealership and never look back.

Your salesman may be sincere or it could the the old 'good cop/bad cop' game car dealers like to play. Either way you're not going to win and risk getting screwed by the sales manager's unethical behavior.

I called Nissan Cust. Service today and asked when the 05 would be available. The guy I spoke to told me that the date they currently have is Sept. 4th. He said they should be available to the public on that date. He also said that date could change but right now that's what they have. He didn't have any pricing information or any information about any changes that haven't already been posted here.

As a follow-up. I called 2 more dealers today. One said that currently they are unable to order a 2005 right now. The 2nd dealership said they can order right now and can do my asking price. I'm heading down there tomorrow morning to do all the paperwork. Hopefully they actually mean what they said on the phone.

Car dealerships are amazing things. Sometimes you wonder if they actually want to make money. All they seem to care about is the easy sale of existing inventory.

You contact 3 dealerships. One wants you put down a non-refundable deposit. One is "unable" to take orders even though we know dealers can order '05s. Let's hope dealer #3 comes through for you. Nobody should have to put up with all the aggrevation.

Yup. I had a similar experience. I wanted a particular trim and one of three colors and I couldn't find any available within 75 miles. One dealer said he had no way of checking what he had coming in the near future, and tried to get me to buy a different trim. One dealer said he could have a car brought in from further away but that I had to put down a non refundable deposit and sign the contracts before he could bring it down. The final dealer went and checked their inventory software and had exactly what I was looking for coming in the next week. We agreed upon a price. I gave a refundable $500 deposit. 8 days later the car arrived and its now in my driveway.

Its total bull that they didn't know what was coming in. I mean seriously... I can order some $20 product and its tracked everytime its moved from one site to another and I know exactly where it is in the shipping process. And these guys are moving around $30,000 vehicles and have no clue where they are? Please, who are they trying to fool.

They basically pay for having a car on the lot. Every day it sits there is another day of interest that they pay on the loan that they took out to get the car on their lot. Some dealers only care about moving what is physically on their location.

I was able to order my 2005 Daytona Blue touring 350Z today.

I can only say how much better this experience was. The time from walking in the dealership to our final handshake was only 15 minutes. I got it for $33,300 ($725 over invoice, $2100 under MSRP).

I was told that the order will go in the end of next week, but they will begin to scan the new shipments of 05' that will be coming in and if they find the one I ordered it will be directed to here.

This has been so far the best car buying experience I've ever had.

If anyone in New Jersey is looking for a good dealership I highly recommend Somerset Nissan.

I dealt with the sales manager: Lee Geron

Now the tough part.. waiting

On an interesting note the salesman at the first dealership mentioned how he was really annoyed at the dealership for not letting him make a real bid to order the car from me and said he wasn't going to work there much longer. I wondering if this was just talk. This happened on Saturday I called down there today to let him know the good news and he no longer works for the dealership.

I too order a DB touring, but a 2004 at the end of April from Somerset. How long do you have to wait? They told me to expect the car late Aug.

I was told no more than 3 months. The order will be put in the end of next wk. However, in Septemeber/October they will look for this type of car to be shipped over and if they find it they will try to get it to me.

Looks like you're coming up on 3 months, I'd call your sales guy and see if they have the status.
