Smile Playing DVD's on the NAV?

I just got my touring with the NAV system last weekend... I love it!

Anyway, I'm well aware that the nav system cannot play DVD movies unless modified. Does anyone know what needs to be done, is it difficult.

BTW, I'm not planning on watching movies while I drive, so no flaming please....

Thanks in advance....

Chaz

I will try and save you from getting yelled at. Alot of people have asked that and you should search before you ask. Aside from that I spoke to a place in brooklyn that says they can do it for 1400 including the dvd player. I will get up there this week and let everyone know what the outcome is.

Default hey rcamooso

i talked to them at nav-tv they said it was 350 for the modulator and 75 for a TV tuner thats all. if you talked to www.nav-tv.com and call there 800 # u can get prices. only one draw back they will only sell it to audio stores. but those were the prices they told me.

They quoted iternetabyss a price in that range but they told me they never did one on a 350z and didnt know what was required and needed a car to look at the sys so I was going to be the guineapig and go.

I'll haggle when I get there and try to pitch them on the site and try to get them to give a discount to people who come from the site.

what they told me was they did it in a infiniti. and the nav systems are the same. but they also said that u have to hard wire it in the system. so unless your an electrician, i dont think you can do it yourself

Yeah they told me it was the same as the lexus. I would wait to order parts until its done by me or someone else I used to do installs so I will try to stay in the shop while its done and I will take alot of pics. My buddy just told me today that he knows someone over there so I'm gonna bring him with.

Somehow people get confused by the word "DVD" and think it means movies on DVD. DVD is a data storage media. In the same way that you can have an audio CD or a data CD, you can put a movie on a DVD, or store data on a DVD. Nissan states that it is DVD-based because you can fit map data for the entire country on a single DVD, whereas CD-based units require a different disc for each city or region. "DVD" does not equal "DVD Movie"! Older navigation units use CD-ROMs to store map data: does anyone ever complain that they can't play audio CDs too?

Extending what z350z said, DVD means Digital Versatile Disc, not Digital Video Disc.

Nissan wasn't dumb at all. They were very intelligent with this decision.

The term "DVD" is used a lot for movies, when that isn't really the extent of what DVD means. When you hear VHS versus DVD, they are talking about the media format, not the fact it is a movie. This is similar to saying you want a Klenix, when you really want a tissue, not necessarily a Klenix brand tissue. Coke, Xerox, band-aid, are also terms used like DVD is used.

Respectfully,
Todd
