any suggestions to avoid this?
I already sold my car to get a new car this week. Currently, I'm bumming rides to school from friends and family members so I need to get my hands on the 04z somewhere this week. What I'm worried about is that the 04 z's on dealer's lots are all old (as in not freshly-shipped from the dealers) and I'm sure lots of people have already test drove them.
When people test drive the Z, I'm SURE they redlined it without even thinking that the Z's on the dealer lots are not even broken in yet. So I was going to ask the dealership to have me shipped a brand new 04 model if they can but since the 05's are coming out soon, I doubt it will be possible.
I really cant sleep at night thinking that someone already have abused my z to the redline when it wasnt even broken in. Is there any suggestions/ideas to go about this?

Yes... no debate please. 350z716 is worried enough about the car being abused, so lets just stick to what the owner's manual suggests which is 1200miles(2000km) for the break-in period.
I don't think a few test-drive miles are going to make any difference, even if they're done bouncing the car off the rev limiter. The bottom line is that today's engines are not like those from the old days...and break-in is largely vestigial. Our family has a max with a VQ which was redlined from day one, 100k+ later the car still purrs like a kitten. Cars have a warranty to protect you as well. If you really can't sleep at night about something like this, you need to invest your money in psychotherapy and klonapin.

Most new cars DO NOT come broke in from the factory. That's simply misinformation. Most engines undergo a BRIEF test period to ensure the engine isn't shipped with an obvious defect. The oil is then drained and new oil is put in. There is nothing to my knowledge on a new 350z that is broke-in from the factory.
TO THE POSTER: Be patient and get an '05 fresh off the boat, or go searching for the '04 you want and talk the dealer down since the new ones are just around the corner. Most dealers also set aside a Z for people to test drive. Dealers don't generally let anyone drive any Z they want at any time. Go to the dealer and look for yourself. Most Z's will only have a few miles on them. If the dealer let people test drive any Z they wanted, people like me and you wouldn't in a million years buy that car.
Good luck!
