another Z peril: landscapers!
Bricks, birdcrap, bad drivers, parking lot dings, and now you can add landscapers to the list of things to avoid.
I was at work today, parked in a coveted "end spot" with a direct view to my Z from the office a few stories above. Getting caught up doing work, I didn't notice that a landscaper was cleaning the parking lot of leaves and debris with a blower.
Even with a bum left knee (torn ACL), I FLEW down the stairs and stopped him. Too late. My freshly washed and waxed Z was now covered in a thick layer of dust. I ripped him a new one, and he offered to use the blower on my car. F*&^$'n idiot, I just moved the car before Einstein did any more damage.
While I was dusting the car to calm down, they quickly finished and high-tailed it outta there.
BEWARE of the dreaded landscaper!

I've had this happen a couple of times to my cars in the past. One time, they ran a weedeater through some fine gravelly dirt right up against my car, and it looked like somebody had taken a couple of hands full of gravel and just thrown them at my paint.
I was so mad, but I couldn't prove it was them enough to get their insurance to pay for it, or our property guys to care.
Now, I typically watch the grass height. If it looks long, I park my car away from it. Really disgusting.

You know, people say that dusting the car is like running fine grit sandpaper over the finish. But I have one of those California car dusters and I think they work great.
I ONLY dust if I have waxed the car and I think that makes a large difference because you are not running the particles into your clearcoat. Carnuba (or whatever the wax is based on) is taking the abrasion from the dust. I have used the duster several times and seen absolutely no scratches from the use and I am fanatical about my car detailing.
Drake.

Years ago a grass mower hit the side of my 78 280Z with the handle of his mower. left a black rubber stripe about 1/4 inch wide and 2 feet long down the drivers door. No other damage was done and a detailer was able to clean it up. Now days I pay attn to when the landscapers are comming and look for a spot where they have already worked.
It's true!! landscapers have it out for us! I was driving in the left lane yesterday (doing 50 - the speed limit) and this dummy pulls out of the right lane (which was lined up at a light) into my lane with his big ole' carrier full of stuff and cut me off! Good thing the stock brakes are incredible....This is the 2nd time I've been cut off in the z - i hope people don't make a habit out of it...
Been cut off more than I thought possible.. that and people who cant wait a sec while your backing up and cutting behind you ..
Jerks every one.
EZ...
Just people who hate to see us have fun...

Another thing to be careful of is following behind a fladbed truck that is made for carrying heavy equipment, such as dozers, graders, etc. They always seem to have dirt and small rocks falling of of them and filtering back through traffic. If you ride a motorcycle, this becomes apparent very quickly.

I don't mean to laugh, but it's a similar situation for me at times. They know now to stay away from my car.
What can be worse are the weedeater folks. Those damn things grab and toss debris at well over 100mph!
Those SOB's can certainly create some damage!
I wouldn't even bring my Z to work on the day the gardners show up. My Toyota is totaled with dust after they get done. No place to park since they blow the whole parking lot.
We even get dust in under all the doors even though there's weatherstripping. You can talk to them but they don't remember the next time.

Yep, landscapers are deadly. Yesterday I was driving home and the landscapers were passing (going the other way) and a piece of debris fell off the 3 ton truck they were driving. It was on a 70 km/h road, so whatever it was hit my windshield at about 150 km/h. There was a really loud smack. It landed right at eye level and about half an inch from the driver's side pillar.
The impact crater is deep. There was no crack right away, however after an hour sitting in my garage it cracked to about 8 inches. I think the windshield is done for, what do you think?
Oh yeah, and I wonder how much a replacement windshield will be.

Having just went through the same thing on my Pathfinder, I can tell you your windshield is probably done for. The crack will only get bigger over time, so you should start saving for a replacement.
First recommendation would be to get Nissan glass, NOT aftermarket (if any even exists yet).
It will probably be somewhere around $650 to get the glass and have it installed. But in the end, it'll be worth the extra expense.

Landscapers suck. However this one was at my home. I have a black Prelude, and I noticed several scratches and scrapes on my hood. I questioned everyone in my household to no avail. Finally one mornig I heard the landscapers blower right outside my front door. I looked out and to my horror the dumbass had left his running, vibrating blower on the hood of my car. Right in the exact place where the scratches were. Turns out the guy would take the blower of his back and set it on my hood just so he could go and un latch the gate to my backyard a little easier. I couldn't freaking believe it. Needless to say we have a new landscaper.
