Default Strut Tower Bar....Push or Pull?

I was reading a post in another forum, and I got to wondering, does a properly torqued strut bar push against the towers, or pull them towards each other? I guess ulimately, the same effect would be accomplished either way, right?

Also, how does the STB really work? Isn't it almost impossible to stop frame torque from one end of the car, and not diagonally across the frame?

Have some one turn the steering lock to lock while you are outside watching. It is quite amazing to see how much the body tweeks.
