Here is the info on the New 2005 Z straight from the Nissan website:

In 2005, the 350Z adds only minor enhancements.

Enhancements to the 2005 350Z Coupe:

· Clutch pedal effort has been reduced for easier operation
· 5-speed automatic transmission features downshift rev matching
· Standard driver’s seat front and rear lifter
· Heated outside mirrors
· Faster navigation system processor for improved route calculation times

The fully automatic soft top stows compactly under a lightweight tonneau cover, completely hiding the top when down. The Z Roadster will continue to offer the powerful 3.5-liter DOHC V6 producing 287 horsepower and 274 lb-ft torque.

Infiniti G35 Sedan

The 2005 G35 sedan continues with a number of significant enhancements for the new model year, including a restyled exterior, upgraded interior and additional horsepower.

The exterior features include a new hood and trunk, new front and rear bumpers, body-colored side sills, revised headlight lens and new dual circle taillights. The changes to the interior include a new, even higher quality look and feel with the use of real aluminum trim and new available Rosewood trim, along with a redesigned instrument panel and console area.

The G35 sedan’s standard 3.5-liter V6 engine now offers 280 hp and 270 ft-lb of torque, increases of 20 hp and 10 lb-ft of torque for automatic transmission equipped models. The G35 6MT model with close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission receives 38 additional horsepower to 298 hp.

Other changes include the addition of larger brake rotors and a revised Sport-Tuned Suspension Package (which now includes 18-inch wheels and tires and Viscous Limited-Slip Differential) and the addition of mp3 playback capability to the already standard 6-disc CD changer, manual tilt/telescoping steering wheel (with available power function) and available Infiniti Intelligent Key system.

Enhancements to the 2005 G35 Sedan include:

· Revised exterior, designed to convey sporty character and match vehicle’s dynamic performance
· New hood, trunk, front and rear bumpers, side sills
· Revised headlight lens and new dual circle taillights
· New exterior colors – Lakeshore Slate and Serengeti Sand
· Additional 20 horsepower (5AT), additional 38 horsepower (6MT)
· 18-inch wheels and Viscous Limited-Slip Differential on Sport-Tuned Suspension Package
· Larger diameter front and rear stabilizer bars
· Available Intelligent Key system
· New, high quality interior look and feel with refined materials and textures, including real aluminum and available straight-grained Rosewood trim
· Redesigned instrument panel and console

Taken straight from the sight it clearly says G35 Sedan 6spd manual 298hp as well.

I wish I had the seat adjuster in two places. The seatbelt doesn't sit right on my shoulder - ugh.

I for one am glad the 2005s all come with TPMs. Safer for Z drivers and gives the techs more exposure to the TPMs - so hopefully they don't mess mine up.

Also, 298 is such a frustrating number. Why not 300hp??

wow, those are major changes for the g sedan. 38hp bump is insane. and an lsd and bigger wheels? if the base price for the 6mt stays under $30k, that's an amazing value.

Designed from the ground up on the racing-inspired FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, the Infiniti G35 sport coupe expands its performance capabilities for the 2005 model year with the addition of two new Sport models featuring 19-inch wheels and tires, Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD) and 15 additional horsepower for the 6-speed manual transmission-equipped version.

The G35 sport coupe will be offered in three models for 2005, Coupe, Coupe Sport (A/T) and Coupe Sport 6MT.

The 2005 G35 sport coupe features a long list of standard performance features, including a 280 horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 mated to a standard 5-speed electronically controlled automatic with manual shift mode.

The G35 Sport 6MT model offers a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and an additional 15-plus horsepower, bringing its power to the 295 horsepower range (final figures to be announced later). Inside, the G35 sport coupe offers the expected levels of Infiniti premium available amenities, including an available Bose® premium audio system and DVD-based Infiniti Navigation System.

ok, does nissan not have a marketing department, do they not wnat to sell Z's any more? the z is suposed to be nissans fastest car, not hte g35c. if hte g35c can have 298, then so shoudl hte z.

i was debating whether to buy the g35c or the z since you can get brembos and leather seats/bose on the g35c. but the z was faster, so i bought it. if i were to make that decisoin now, it would definetly be the g35c since it makes more hp(which makes it equally as fast if not faster) and has everythign the z has. its probably only going to be a few g's more expenisve but who cares, you get more car for hte money.

-not happy the z did not get hp bump.

I'm totally content with my 2004. As far as horsepower who cares, I'm going forced induction But for everyone else hopefully it'll be something that can retrofitted to the up the power.

I don't think the 295/298 coupe sport G35 would be faster than a Z, being it weighs a little more to offset the HP difference. I could be wrong, however.

Maybe they want more people to buy the G so that the Z stays rare ... (I'm reachin' here!)

Assuming the 2005 G has the same weight as the 2004 G, the power to weight ratio is still better on the Z (also assuming the Z's weight stays the same).

Code:
GC Leather 6MT - 298hp - 3435lbs - 0.0867hp/lb - 11.52lbs/hp
GS Leather 6MT - 298hp - 3398lbs - 0.0876hp/lb - 11.40lbs/hp
Z Track 6MT - 287hp - 3225lbs - 0.0889hp/lb - 11.23lbs/hp
Z Touring 6MT - 287hp - 3247lbs - 0.0883hp/lb - 11.31lbs/hp
Z Base 6MT - 287hp - 3188lbs - 0.0900hp/lb - 11.10lbs/hp
More horsepower per pound (hp/lb) is better and less pounds per horsepower (lbs/hp) is better.

You can't just look at one number (horsepower) and say that car's going to be faster than another. There's a lot of different things to consider. And I'm not saying just power to weight either. (There's gear ratios, tire sizes, wheel sizes, drivetrain, valve timing, etc.)

Also consider that people are claiming about 6.5rwhp off a JWT pop-charger. That translates to about 8hp at the crank (assuming about 15% loss). That's 295hp at the crank. What I'm trying to say is that 11hp isn't really that big a difference.

Now, compared with my ZR, I'm at a big disadvantage on the power to weight ratio. But I didn't buy a roadster solely for straight line acceleration anyway.

ZR Touring 6MT - 287hp - 3462lbs - 0.0829hp/lb - 12.06lbs/hp

I read somewhere that as soon as you hit the 300 hp mark you jump up to a different bracket as far as insurance is concerned. Maybe they underrated it to keep it affordable?

base MSRP for the 6MT is not under 30k, it's more like 32K. Invoice however, is BARELY under 30k.

I was planning on getting a Z this fall, now I am reconsidering the G35C

Also... something interesting... the Altima SE-R looks like it may actually give the Z a run for its money.... 260HP, the current 250HP altima, according to nissan's site, which cites Motor Trend, does 0-60 in 5.95. The SE-R comes with forged 18" rims, 12.6" rotors (almost as large as the 12.7 on the track Z), HIDs, indash 6 disc changer, sport suspension, etc.

I'm certainly not trying to say they are equal cars, just that the altima SE-R, if it stays around 26k, will be a pretty decent sedan.

One more new feature that the G35 has that i didn't see listed for the Z, the in-dash 6disc changer on the G35 now does MP3 playback....

on another subject.... consider buying a DVD headunit to play MP3-DVDs (the computer community actually seems to be calling it DVD-MP3). Not all dvd players will do it, and most will specifically ONLY list "MP3 Playback on CD-R and CD-RW" but what they fail to mention is it WILL (some models I've tested anyhow) play MP3s on DVD+R too! (or DVD-R, RW, etc) 4.7G (4.48G) of mp3s on a single disc for the car! almost as good as my 80G HDD DVD+R DL media is still WAY too expensive!

With MP3s on DVD, I'll probably not even bother with a computer in my next car (have had one since 98 in all my vehicles that I've had)... I'll just get a DVD headunit that will do DVD-MP3.
