The Hard Goodbye (includes remedy:)

As for the White Mamba - breaking traction in every gear -- now that would be hard to do.. at 80mph in 6th gear the tac is dead, completely dead; 5th and 6th don't even wake up until you reach past 100. You'd need runway to do it; it may be possible but I've not done it yet.
I'd also like to address the track vs. straight line question because it's a good one.
Most folks are quite uneducated about the SRT-10 and its design purposes. The SRT-10 is designed first and foremost as a track car. It'll turn at well over 1 Lat G, is at 1 on the skidpad and does the slalom at 73mph. And while these are all good stats, the SRT-10 best is braking --> 0-100-0 in 13.3. These are average scores, Motortrend did the 0-100-0 in 13.0.
So to answer the question - track first, drag second. Although a stock SRT-10 (mine is a sp ed and has a few upgrades) can do the 1/4 in 11.55 which ain't bad either.
The car is a different animal to drive though--fairly steep learning curve and it's not as forgiving as say a Z06. The car demands respect from the driver. But in the hands of a good, capable one, it really delivers.
and yes the car has seen 2222 and lime creek -- good fun stuff.
and BTW -- I can't wait to see the 2005 Z in Yellow...

I heard in a few articles that the Viper has a failry steep learning curve. For curiosity sake, I was wondering if you could elaborate using your own personal accounts? The articles I read were a while ago, so I forgot most of the detailed info. So, why exactly is it such an unforgiving car? Is it mainly because of the power delivery?
Wow, congrats! I guess you were the one who bought the Mamba Edition Viper that Maxwell Dodge advertised for about a month in the paper?
Whatever you and all the guys with Lingenfelter Z06's are doing ... I need in! Right now!
For the non-Austinites, 2222 and many other roads in the Texas Hill Country are fantastic curvy roads. It's our Texas Nurburgring! It's also where I learned about throttle lift oversteer, but that's a story for another day.
Again, congrats, bishop_tx! I'll be sure to wave!

Congrats on that car! It's beautiful, and damn powerful. Your a lucky man.
One comment though:
lingenfelter ls7 is what they call em. You don't need a z06 particularly, they mod any c5 to those stats.
As sick as his car is, only a viper venom can be used in the same sentence as a lingenfelter Twin turbo ls7.
That car (ligenfelter) is the quickest thing on the road no contest.

and the Venom Viper is from (what's the company's name this week) Hennesey -- whose under federal investigation for fraud..
It all comes down the cubic inches -- the LS7 is a good motor, but nothing comapred to the Viper 505 V-10.
Roe Racing has GenII Vipers at 1000+Hp running in the high 8's, with comprable track times. The Ligenfelter Vette runs in the low 10s - best one ever was high 9s. Roe is announcing their new SRT-10 version at VOI8 (http://www.voi8.com) this weekend - ought to be crazy fast.
Even the newly announced Ligenfelter C6 using the LS2, while fast, is still somewhere in second place. It'll be interesting to see what Chevy does with the new C6 Z06. I am likely to get one if they get it right.
MT just released their latest figure-eight track test (Sept 04) ---
PORSCHE GT 23.8 SEC @ .86 G
ENZO 24.5 SEC @ .82 G
FORD GT 25.2 SEC @ .77 G
VIPER SRT-10 23.9 SEC @ .86 G
I'd say Chevy and Ford have their work cut out for them.
Those are some impressive numbers the viper is putting down! I can't believe the Viper is competitive with the other 3 cars (being that they are all in the six-figure+ range). Although the Viper SRT-10 is a beautiful car, I wish they had stayed with a more exotic design like the first Viper. The new one looks more like a muscle car. Still, I would own one in a heartbeat if I could.
The only other thing that bothered me about the Viper was the interior quality. I saw one in person, and sat in it. For a car that costs ~80K, you think they wouldn't have cheaped out on the quality of materials. More specifically the radio buttons, AC, *****, dash parts, etc. The door material is really nice though. I do like the layout though. It is a performance oriented machine, so I could see a minimalist approach, just not a low quality approach on the plastics. If I bought the Viper I think I would get a custom interior.
