Default Solve my rattle!

Hey all... I've had this rattle on the top of my dash, it is driving me nuts. it started out on the passenger side, where that little circle plug sits (this plug looks like the one with the car-alarm light in it, just on the other side). I tried padding that, but it still rattles.

When i stick my fingers in the air vents up near the windshield, it goes away. Anyone have this, or know how to get rid of it?

Thanks!

I think I may have the same rattle! For the past week or so, I have been ghearing something up by the dash and I haven't been able to find it. I will have to try that out next time I am in the car.

Sorry I don't have a solution, but thank you for the suggestion. I will let you know if I figure anything out.

Same here I have been playing with it for over a year. It comes and goes. I notice it more under drastic temperature change. I have taken out that little round temp sensor and tried to figure it out but it still comes an goes.

Ok....I have a rattle also, but it's not in the same location. Mine is in the shifter. Anyone have this little annoyance?

I didn't mean to hijack your thread...so if you want, I'll start a new one.

Very interesting.

After 1 year and 7 months of owning my Z ... that very same rattle started 2 weeks ago. It seems to be coming from the air vents near the windshield -- in the center of the dash -- but I haven't been able to locate it.

Also, my rattle comes and goes ... not a big sound .. just irritating as hell.

my father's z had the same rattle(I complained to him about it), he had nissan look at it but whatever they did only lasted a month. during this time there was also noise from the tire feathering, but ever since he put on 20" wheels on it*shakes head in amusement* the car has been absolutely silent.

I have the same exact rattle. It seems to be coming a little to the left of and above the digital gauge pod in the center. Its very hard to pinpoint the sound with the position u are sitting in. Its very annoying. :/

Almost the same location as mine. I sit on the right side -- and the noise seems to be coming from the center to right side above the gauge pod. And yes .. it is very hard to locate.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr ..

I too also have that rattle. It seems to go away if you push on the piece above the guage cluster.

But my bigger rattle is at the bottom corner of the windshield on the passenger side, the triangular shaped piece between the dash and the windshield post.

those that are having a rattle above the gauge cluster... I think i found out why... If you have ever taken off the entire center dash for audio, headunit, or watever reasons... I believe something might not be fitting right. In order to fully take apart the dash u need to take off the electrical plug in to the pods. It could be that these wires are not secure so they rattle... Or it could be something that didnt snap in right evidence of this is seen in the fact that it does slightly go away when u push down in that area. Im gona look into this over the week, but thats my best guess. the important question is has anyone had this rattle who has NEVER taken apart the center at all? This may help solve the problem.

^^ I was just about to say that.

That would be my guess too. How many of you with rattles have had systems installed? My Z is quiet as hell. The only time I have ever noticed a rattle was when I took out the trunk mats.

My dash is a virgin. Never removed - no stereo upgrade.

guys, next time you hear this rattle, reach up ang grab the rear view mirror, give it a sqeeze, and see if that stops the noise.
Sounds crazy but I looked everywhere for 1 year till i found the noise coming from there. Now I'm trying to figure out a fix.

Post back if that cures it.
