I know this was discussed a lot back in the early days but since I never had the problem, I didn't pay a lot of attention to it.
Ever since AAM removed my gearshift **** (when they had to remove the plastic piece that has the three climate control ***** on it for my A/F gauge), it has been rattling up a storm.
Now, I'm not talking about simple vibration. It always has done that, and it never really bothered me since I try not to rest my hand on the **** too much while driving.
I am talking about an AUDIBLE "buzzing" sound that seems to be coming from under the leather shift boot. It is EXTREMELY annoying and I wondered if anyone else who had removed the **** and boot also had this problem? If so, HOW do you fix it?
Thanks

Hey Dr. B,
Underneath the stock shifter there is a brass ring that slips over the shaft. If the shift **** isn't screwed down tight enough, that brass ring rattles around inside the shifter and it is REALLY annoying. When I replaced my stock shifter, I removed the brass ring, because I think it's only used for the stock **** to tighten against. Check to see that your shift **** is on tight enough.

I applied a thick layer of athletic tape along the length of the shift lever (below the threads) before replacing the brass ring and the ****, I used enough tape so it was really hard to screw the **** down and nothing could possibly rattle. Buzzing is gone.
