I currently have 8,200 miles on my 03' and no problems until recently I got 2 horrible sounding 3rd gear grinds. I think the problem was that I didn't warm up the car before I try to shift quickly into 3rd. I had a notchy 2nd gear but after I put in the RE short shifter it went away. But now it's 3rd gear grinding. Oh man...
Mine 2004 died last week (while racing a bike).
I downshift a lot....especially when negotiating very twisty roads in the smokey mountains. I would also consider myself a very aggressive driver.
Could downshifting be the/a culprit?
How about Power-Shifting?

Early VIN 885 w/ 16k, a third of those miles track miles. No tranny problems.
Prior experience w/ my last 3 300ZX's indicate that Z trannies are stout enough to handle gobs of power, but they need to warm up and they're not drag racing trannies.
Michael.
