I'm not going to explode on most of you, but listen up and listen up good. I'm not getting the Z because I WANT TO PLEASE MY PARENTS and get a IS300. Not because of money. The IS300 is MORE than the Z, so don't even bring money into the role. Second, some of you are taking personal offense to this, big deal, it's a car! Then some of you are saying apples to oranges, thats not the case. Maybe price difference is a lot, but that doesn't mean a car cheaper cant out perform the Z. You guys are Z lovers and thats great but you need to be able to accept there is faster cars (not sayin the neon is, but there are some). And as far as you not hearing it dyno'd at 223, READ Sport Compact Car, December Issue. To top it off, I've heard this car dyno'ing at 240 with higher boost.

Oh one more thing, you guys are all saying "It's a neon!", well how the hell do you think a car earns repect? They try something new, they come out with something that stands out, and they do a good job. Who knows, the Viper shot off Dodge's name, the Neon could also. You guys need to be more open minded.

I'm sorry to be rude about this, but I used to work for that particular company, and Millions are spent by DCX on that car under and out of warranty.

Why are you comparing a FWD car with a Z? A econobox, built by UAW's finest, with taillight water leaks and failing front spindles, and recalls up the wazoo. Do you want me to go on?
Hello, knock, knock. Anybody there? Anything in there?

These are the exact reasons why I don't want to get beat by one with an intake, exhaust and $5 manual boost controller.

"There's always a bigger fish. Do you really need to have the quickest car on the road? If so, better have some deep pockets."

This is ok, but not a cheap a$$ neon, with it's Mexico engineered and built engine. (yes...Mexico, and the statement is not intended to be racial). I know....speed isn't everything, but it won't be fun to get spanked by a sea of Neons driven by laughing 16 yr olds. If any of you have any pride in your car, and not just in the price tag....this picture should bother you. But it's ok...aftermarket is on the way!

I'm not saying the Neon is better than the Z, don't get me wrong here, I totally love the Z more than any other car. Best design, best interior, best engine for price. But when you consider for only 20,000 you get a car which can dyno at 220-240hp, 250lbs of torque, with the 17" rims, ect ect, it isn't that bad..

Typical biasd opinion. You are so in love with the Z, you fail to see facts. I'm not saying the Z would win/lose at a track, but what I am saying is you guys need to stop looking at it as a "NEON" and just look at the engine and performance.

Thats true, but I do think if the neon runs enough boost, it can keep up with the stock 350z. Granet the Z is a v6 3.5liter rwd sports car, but on the other hand, the dyno of power is about the same, with low boost, the car is much lighter. Now of course the Z would win by miles on a twisty road, but I think in a stright 1/4mile race, the Z would win by maybe a few hairs.

Maybe Ricky's right. I'm gonna get me a Neon and replace all
the "Dodge" and "Neon" badges with "Nissan" and "350Z".
I'LL SAVE MORE THAN $10,000! I'm cancelling my order!

i think it's a good sign for all auto enthusiasts when car makers are doing their best to make affordable performance oriented cars available. we're in the second "horsepower wars" and it can only improve cars as time goes on.

i blame nissan, the 240hp altima and 180hp sentra really raised the stakes i can just hear the accord engineering team saying "they did what!?" when the altima rolled out. mazdaspeed's turbo protege and this turbo neon are both steps in the right places. ecu's that take advantage of higher boost levels will make acceleration quite phenomenal.

Yeah, im looking at the engine alright. I'm looking at a pile of pieces after the blow-up.
How big would you like your ventilation hole on the side of the block?

Oh, and your comment about the IS being more of a car than the Z. Sure, it's a 4 door. You are comparing apples to oranges, AGAIN!

Enjoy the high speed cornering rear end float, under on/off throttle modulation. And the shitty gas mileage.

not only is it a ringer.
it does .85 on the skidpad and has no chamber adjustment.
and there is no way it will be released without a muffler.
and most of all it is a dodge neon.

Where is the peeing squirrel when you need him ?

For some reason with the exception of the viper and tc stealth I think of dodge products as 3rd world automobiles slightly higher on the food chain than the yugo.

I couldn't agree more. Also note, there will always be cars faster than yours. Even in you buy a F1, eventually there will always be something faster, eventually. Don't worry about the other cars, just enjoy yours.

C'mon, I know that not a single one of you would be _that_ insulted when you get the doors blown off of you by a certain Dodge with a little snake emblem on it. :P

Read that entire article people. That car was a "ringer" plain and simple. Did you read the part where the Daimler engineers freaked because they dyno'd the car and ran an instrumented test? That's because they know the car is a ringer. Daimler Chrysler was looking for some good early hype, but I think they caught in a little publicity stunt. Let's see them take one off a dealer lot when it comes out and put that same HP to the wheels. Hell, the car didn't even have mufflers and if those fools at SCC really believe that the car will make it to production without mufflers then I have some nice "swamp front" investment property for them as well. To make that kind of HP at the wheels, that car would have to be running almost 14lbs of boost!! Neon motors barely hold together without FI!!!

Here is my guess when the mags finally test actual production versions of the car. 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 15.2@92mph. I want to post this here so we can bring it back up when production versions are out and I can either say; "I told ya so," or I can say; "where is my hat, I am hungry!!"
I totally agree. Come on, no muffler and it the exhaust system backfires?? There's no way in hell this car will pass emissions anywhere. The article is just plain misleading - the car they tested has at about 60hp more than the production version will.
