test drove my first Z today
So I am really considering getting a Z very soon and test drove one today. Wasn't all that impressed. I only drive a 2001 Prelude and I thought my car was funner to drive with FWD and 87 less hp.
Anyway, the biggest thing was that the shifter SHOOK like a **** when accelerating. Like so much I felt like I needed to shake my hand out to get rid of that weird feeling. Is this the case will all Z's or does just this one (with 47 miles on it) show symtoms of a F'd up tranny. If so, wow nissan trannies blow more goats than honda trannies! If not, wow how do you 6-speed owners deal with that crap?

Are you sure it was the tranny? Sounds like a symptom of frequent ************.
I wouldn't know if mine does that. I don't keep my hand on the shifter. You're not supposed to; bad for the synchros. Haven't you ever seen race car drivers shift?
I have a history of driving Hondas. 6 of them, as a matter of fact. Nothing compares to high torque RWD.

Hahaha... "funner to drive with FWD and 87 less hp"... You must really like pushing hard into those corners and the torque steer that comes with it.
I've also driven preludes, gs-r's, itr's... although it's nice to rev the engine up that high now an then, i cannot grasp the concept that you think FWD is more fun to drive than a high torque RWD car.
And don't be such a baby, the shifter doesn't vibrate that much on full acceleration.

The vibration you are feeling through the shift lever is common to most manual transmission rear drive cars. The reason for that being that the shifter is connected directly to the transmisson...not via a cable (like FWD cars).
Even G35's have the vibration. I kind of like it, because I feel like I am more in touch with what the car is doing.

OMG the shifter vibrates, I cant stand it anymore it reminds me of my girlfriend's little toy. Plz if u cant tell the power diff between the Z and the Prelude then u shouldnt be buying the Z as u will probably crashing the car in a week after u got it.
Go to a 350Z forum, people there will like Z's. Go to a Honda forum, they will prefer Honda's. This is not rocket science, you should assume there is a degree of bias; that is why they purchased that car, they like it.
I think what badfish25 is really saying is that he has to find a reason to trash the Z to justify his lack of finances to aquire one. Please don't get one. That will mean one less Z on the road. I must see at least thirty Honda Preludes for every one Z I see on the road. I'm sorry but the Preludes are nothing special. They're a dime a dozen.
Wow, did all of you on the forum have your parents all buy your car for you? you are all acting like babies. I prefer not to get dragged into a flaming war on my 3rd post so i'll leave it at this. You all obviously have no clue about other cars, and I wouldn't be surpised if most of you didn't even know how to change your own oil. I ask a simple question on whether or not all Z's shifters shake and you start getting all defensive and start honda bashing?!?!?!
anyway, thanks wanderlust for the only productive answer in this thread. I don't think the Z is for me good luck to the rest of you, and grow up a little.
