Default Who has NOT had a problem with their Z (mechanical or otherwise)?

Hi everyone,

Im new here so please bear with me, i am currently planning on purchasing a 05 base model in the very near future but from what i have been reading (here and on other forums) there seem to be a few distinct problems with this Z (feathering, transmission, window problems, etc) and everyone seems to be having the same exact problems (i have yet to see a problem that others have not encountered).

But since it is so hard to gage the reliably of the Z based on negative (to the Z) posts, since people obviously complain when they have problems, i thought i would ask the opposite question.

Also can buying an 05 now guarantee that i will not encounter the feathering issue? Or am i still taking a risk (in regards to the feathering issue)?

Thanks a lot!

I have a 2004 (build date 4/04) with 5000 miles of flawless fun. Some of the earlier models did have some problems, but not all. There are no gaurantees when you buy a car. A "lemon' can come off the production line at any time. That's wey there are "lemon laws'.

If you like the Z and you can afford it, then buy it.

Judging by the number of replies, I guess not too many have had flawless Z's per se. To Zcool - Just wait man cause 5000 miles is not enough to have problems yet. I can honestly say that most of the cars on this forum are not 'Lemons' but we have all had our fair share of problems. Even the 2004 models have not been immune to the tire feathering problem. So choose wisely when buying your car. Also, Nissan service doesn't have the best reputation and they will treat you the same as a Nissan Sentra owner, so factor that into your decision as well.

Default No problems so far...

Hi peterhong

I have an 04 Z with 3200 miles. I purchased it in January of 04. I drive it at the track and very aggressive in the mountains, so my car gets a pretty good work out. I also take it on long trips, 300 to 500 miles at a time. No problems so far. I enjoy my car ever time I get into it. It handles incredibly well , it has a great amount of horsepower and it looks good!!!! No tire feathering, no transmission problems, no clicking noises, no nothing. I would buy another Z hands down. I fact my wife wants a Z roadster.

Mine is a 2004 model (built in 12/2003, I think). Bought it in January. Have 10k miles on it. No problems yet. (Well, at least none that weren't my fault.)

All of what you have read was problems mostly with the early 2003 models, which have all been addressed by nissan through TSB's. Most of what you have read is prolly BS from kids.

You will be fine, enjoy yor new Z.

i have an 03, built in 02/03.

i have around 20,000 miles so far.

cost of repair - $0
Warranty Repair - Window Regulator & Motor change
-New Windshield (insurance took care of that)
-New driver side seat cover (due to unusual wear)

so far no big problems. It is a nissan, and i'm sure it will be fine.

Don't worry about things going bad, just cause some people do have the problems, just buy it, enjoy it, and if something does go wrong, its fixable.

I have a theory behind number of responses being so few...

Either members are having trouble accessing the site or have mass defected to 350Zmotoring.com... I see many my350z.com members over there expressing their frustration over my350z.com being down so often

2003 Enthusiast 6M (purchased in original pre-order Aug-Nov 2002).

@ 18k miles (just under 18k) of zero problems. No tire problems, no unusual noises, etc... I have the window streaks but they never bothered me - lol. Only thing I've done to the car maintenance wise is change the oil (been using Mobil 1 since mile #10 or so).

Purchased mine September 20, 2002 (1st day of preorder/#1564). I have ~19,000 miles on it and I have not yet had to take it to the dealer. The only "problem" (just recently arrived) is the grease streak on the window and I can deal with that.

I've got an 03 with 13,000 miles and no problems yet. Knock on wood. I do have the grease streak though. I just wash it regularly and it doesn't bother me. I have tracked and 1/4 miled mine to death too. FWIW, I have been unable to log into this site for about a week or so.

vin 16XX from 2002 13000miles. had the standard grease on the windows and bose; both repaired.

I also had a window problem; which I got fixed by the grease.

guess those are "problems". but no feathering; no serious issues that ever had to be dealth with NOW.

If you have high expectations and standards and low patience, then the Z is not for you.

I got the grease streaks, the seat shifting, and the window not dropping all the way. I could take my Z in for warranty work, but I have a distrust of anybody other than myself working on my Z. But those are trivial things that doesn't bother me. In the grand scheme of things, my Z brings a ****-eating grin every time I visit the open track.

Michael.
