Dealership Worries !!
Please put my mind at ease. Yesterday, I placed my order for a new 350Z with a proposed delivery date of March 2003. The salesman was friendly and professional. However, when it came time to write up the sales contract, he said that no prices could be stipulated in writing because the car is not "price protected". Nissan could change the MSRP between now and March, and I would have to pay the increased cost. He only listed the model, color, and options that I wanted, but left all price areas blank.
I don't mind paying any reasonable increase, but I am concerned that I am vulnerable to paying some outlandish additional cost that the dealer demands when I pick up the car. Can anyone give me input about this? Did others get a sales contract with no prices written in?

Sometimes a car's price can increase a few hundred dollars in a few months. I think you should get a letter saying that the price will be MSRP at the time the car is delivered and not some number the dealer decides on and calls "fair market value" or some such thing.
good luck.
good luck.
Your salesman is full of bullcrap. Go find another dealership. I went through about 8 dealership before I found one that was giving a refundable deposit. Everyone was selling at MSRP for the preorder though that I was in contact with. If anything the price will be coming down in the future not going up.
Well I been hearing good things about the price.
Alot of people told me that I can get MSRP. I also visited some dealer websites and the basic was just a couple of hundreds over MSRP.
I don't mind paying 27k for basic. You just have to remember the dealer is out there to make money they will make you belive what they want you to belive.

If I understood your dealer's position correctly, the only justifiable reason why he/she was against putting a price down is because Nissan could, and most likely will, increase the MSRP in the coming months. The original deal was for these cars to be sold at MSRP - and not more. If he/she puts the current suggested price down, but then Nissan raises the their suggested price over the next few months, the dealer gets screwed, so why would they do that? In my opinion, the reason why the base model is such a good deal is because it is underpriced. Nissan wanted to sell the car for $30K. That means after burning off the preorders that were assumed to go to Z fanatics, the car had a buffer room of approx. $3K to bump the price up, but still be able to say they sold the car for the advertised price bracket. The original pricing scheme was designed more for the fans who were willing to purchase this car sight unseen. Once the market catches up, and people are able to test drive the Z, allowing them to be more pragmatic about it's quality versus the competition, the price will be raised to more accurately reflect demand and it's categorical market.
As for additional costs, that's always a bunch of dealer garbage, and should be fought tooth and nail to be waived.

Watch out. My guy put EVERYTHING in writing. I would worry about a dealership charging me an unknown price for a car. They could bring the car to you in March and say, "Oh, sorry, you're going to have to pay 7-8k more than it's worth if you want it, because we can sell it for that right off the showroom floor."
Always be skeptical of dealerships, their main purpose in life is to screw the rest of us.
