I too am in doubt. I had USAA and a clean record. My coverage on my 99 C5 was 625 for 6 mos (single, 25, male, no other cars). My S2000 was a little more (637). When I changed to Farmer's it dropped to 591.
My WRX is 375
(w Farmers)
I owned each of these cars seperately.
I am no longer with USAA after I found out that any call you make to them is "on the record". I have Farmers now and can go talk to my agent "off the record". Also, its about 5-7% less expensive. USAA sort of "screwed" me with the S2000 regarding a question I had about how a particular event would be handled. Basically, I ran over a bungee cord. The metal hook punctured my tire, and the cord spun around and banged the side of the car denting and scratching the rear fender. They told me it would be a comp claim (due to object in the road) and to give them the details (a comp claim doesn't raise your premium). They then took the information and I asked the guy to be sure it was a comp claim. He said ok. Went and asked his supervisor. Guess what? Collision claim! And I asked what if I decide to pay for the repairs out of pocket? He said, well we still have to file a claim with zero payout. It won't cost you any more, but if you do have an accident within 6 months, it might appear as though you have 2 collision claims in a short period of time. Also, since I am obligated by my contract to report any damage to the car.
I loved USAA, and apparently a lot of people do. This event left a bad taste in my mouth and I've had no ill feelings with Farmers. But then I haven't had to file a claim yet. However, just knowing that I can ask the agent how its handled without any "official" paperwork being done is a nice thought. My girlfriend has talked to the same agent "off the record" and its been to her benefit.
Bottom line with insurance. It pays to shop around, and the cheapest isn't always the best. Apparently, neither is one of the highest recommended ones

Just to add to the info pool,
I'm 40, clean driving record, in Metro Washington DC Area.
Nationwide is my carrier and I'm paying $390/6 months (all
coverages max'd) w/ a 250 deductible. Go figure...for my 1987 Nissan 200SX (V6), I was paying 240/6 months w/ a 500 deductible. I'm guessing the premium will go up once the insurance companies begin to get a history on the car. Enjoying it while I can.
