Default I learned a new trick in the Z today!

Well, it's not really a trick, but after owning my Z for almost 2 years now and thinking I know every last detail today while filling up for gas I realized something pretty cool. Right after you shut the car off, you can still roll up and down the windows for about 15 seconds until the red flashing security thingie comes on. I always thought automatic windows were electical, so how does it work when the car is completely off? Maybe when you hit that button it zaps a little gnome inside the door who manually rolls the window. I don't know. Hopefully I'm not the last one on this board who knows about this.

you can do that as long as you don't open the door after turning the car off.

also, just in case you don't either:
- you can hold the UNLOCK button on the remote and the windows will go down.
- you can also put your windows up/down with the key on the outside keyhole by holding it in the lock/unlock position.

If you want to know how to roll your windows up automatically with the remote, check the WINDOWUP MOD INSTALLED!!!! thread in the interior/exterior section.

lol, the reason that you can do that just right after the car just turned off is b/c the power is still traveling throughout the car. once you opened the door, the circuit brakes and you then lose the left over power.

Don't we have to buy the manual extra?

I wonder if they make a cd version so that we dont have to actually read....

The power source is from all the static electricity. Now that the weather has turned cooler, I feel like a walking substation after getting out of my car and touching metal. Ouch!

The bigger (more complete) service manual is extra. The owner's guide is free (comes with car or as pdf).

EDIT: See below...

Actually, you can download an electronic copy of the owners manual:

I'd rather read Jane Eyre twice in a row then read the manual ... first of all, it reads like stereo instructions! Second, buying a Z is like buying a new nintendo game when you were like 9 ... all you want to do is play play play and who the hell reads the manual for nintendo games? Seriously, the A button is there, the control pad is there ... with a car, it's gas, brake, and shift! Third, I lost my integrity for the instructions once i read (or glanced) at the part when it said to shift at like 13 mph in first gear FOR STRONG ACCELERATION. Who the hell shifts at 13 mph?? I'm just guessing that number off the top of my head but it's around there. Fourthly, it says "DANGER, WEAR YOUR SEATBELT WHEN OPERATING VEHICLE". Tell me something i don't know stupid manual!

I FOUND SOMETHING NEAT ON MY Z AND I WANTED TO SHARE IT, so please don't make fun.

PS - DavesZ - you live in a red state and i live in a blue state so i am smarter than you.

sorry, but i think you are. j/k

seriously though, just to be on the safe side, i recommend that you read the manual and see what other features you dont know about yet. might as well enjoy all the features your z has to offer.

No kidding! I nearly fell over the other day reacting from the shock of all the built up static electricity.

I didn't know the Z windows roll up and and down with the key!!!

I had a VW GTI and loved that feature, and now I have it in the Z?

Wow! I just used the unlock button the lower the window.

Another cool thing for all the roadster owners out there.....The windows actual go down about 1/4 inch every time you open and close the doors, as to not scrape the soft top...........
