Question "Vehicle Protection" plan or not?

I am thinking of get the Gold Preferred vehicle protection plan for 60 month/75,000 miles for $1,264. I understand that there is a 5yr/60,000 mile limited powertrain warranty but I am worried about the top mechanisms and other high tech parts of our cars. I am wondering what others have done and is the price normally open for negotiation.

Typically those warranties are ripoffs. They are like accessories that dealers make a killing off of. If you mod your car voided. If left stock, your car should be fine it's japanese not american

I don't reccomend anything other than the standard warranty. These cars are made to not have problems for the first 100,000 miles so the dealer is who makes the money on these warranties. Instead put the money in the bank yourself and become self insured. Your real problems start after 100,000 miles. I just bought my Z on 10/29 and told the finance guy this same story and he agreed with me.

The price of the Extended Warranty is somewhat negotiable.

If you plan on keeping the car for 3 years, don't bother buying one.

If you plan on keeping it longer, than it is always a good idea. If you sell the car before the warranty runs out they will pro-rate it and refund the money back to you. I did this on my 2003 Coupe and after 6 months traded it back in and got a check from Nissan for $1180.00. I only lost $20.00 for 6 months worth.

To make a statement that a car will work fine till a certain amount of miles is just not correct. How many Z owners have already had alot of issues with their car even before 10,000 miles.

With window motor failures and the host of other issues with the Z, not getting one is running the risk of major expenses after the standard warranty runs out.

I did not get one on my 97' Eclipse Spyder and regreted it. Had it 7 yrs and had 36,000 miles. It was one problem after another. Some will say it is all in the brand you bought, but it is not. It is a piece of machinery no matter who makes it and it will eventually break as all things do.
