Sick engine, Yeah it seems new cars get more horsepower, but they keep getting heavier negating the effects

well yah, the G is supposedly one of the safest cars on the road, so guaranteed that it will weigh a lot, or more than we want.

The G is a luxery sport coupe. So all the luxery factors add alot of weight.

Wrong. It's all about hp:weight ratio. It is true they are getting heavier, and more powerful but the power far outweighs the weight. I cringe everytime I hear people say what you said.

Default VQ35HR vs VQ37VHR

The engine there comparing it to is not the VQ35HR, but the DE. Versus the HR the 3.7 liter engine produces about 20 more HP to the wheels, but about the same amount of torque as the 35HR. This is going off numbers that the VQ35HR copnsistently puts down on dynojets. I dont know what dyno there using, so obviously this isnt the most accurate comparision. But the DE numbers seem about right for what it would be putting down on a dynojet, no? So the difference really could be more or even less. Nonetheless, I would still expect a little more gain out of an enigne that .2 liters larger and uses this more advance varible vavle timing.

Pure speculation here, but with the added weight and all I dont know how much of a difference there really would be compared to the G37 and an 07 Z. I'm sure there would be some, but maybe not a signifigant amount(maybe even less then pre 07 Z's vs the 07 Z?) . Im sure when they put this engine in the Z though, it will be a different story.

Refer to post #8. Hypnoz is completely right about this.

The 07 350Z Tour/Grand weigh at 3404. The 08 G37 Sport/6MT weighs at 3668.

Based off many dynojet results, the VQ35HR seems to produce around 263 whp, while the VQ37VHR seems to produce around 287 whp.

Now, doing the math, the 07 Z has a power-to-weight ratio of .077 (Weight-to-power of 12.94).

The G37 has a power-to-weight ratio of .078 (Weight-to-power of 12.70)

But most importantly, something very underlooked, the G37 has a much more aggresive gear ratios/final drive than the 07 Z.

While the 07 Z has a final drive of 3.3 for the auto, and 3.54 for the manual, the G37 has a final drive of 3.7 for both the auto and MT.

Either way, I'm sure the "370Z", if it ever arrives, will get the same specs of the G37 minus the weight. Although im sure the "370Z" will also increase from weight due to the current trend of weight increase in both the Z & G.

Regarding weight, Nissan doesnt get it!

PS. All information regarding the Z & G37 taken from Nissanusa.com and Nissannews.com

I'm a research freak. You should see how much research I do before buying such a simple mod

And yes, Twin Turbo's on the already awesome VQ37VHR will be sweet!

VQ37VHRTT sounds so good... and long

Great post. You've certainly done your research. The G is geared quite aggressively which combined with a better hp:weight ratio and power curve than the 07 Z will make it noticeably faster.

I wouldn't doubt 12.9 potential from the 08 G coupe.

I doubt they will throw the 3.7HR into the 08 Z because it would take away from the new G. But we can wish, right?

Well if your comparing it to the base or enth Z, the Z has a better power to weight ratio. Also how do there power curves compare? I think it will be a tad faster, but not go as far to say noticeably faster.

There's a reason why I chose apples to apples

In that case, if you compare the base G37 to the base 07 350Z, you would get the exactly same power to weight ratio as above, since going to base sheds about 60 lb from both the Z & G37.

As for the power curve, not really sure. But I can certainly tell you the VVEL technology definately made a flatter torque line.

Here's a Dyno graph comparing the VQ37VHR against the VQ35DE :

Progressively, the VQ35HR should yield better results than the revup that they dyno'd.

The '07 G Coupe with 293HP does have the REV-UP motor.

Oops, sorry. You're correct. I just figured it was a Non Rev-Up due to its dyno (stopped at 6700 rpm).

Thanks for the heads up!
