Default G37 vs. 370Z

I was looking at pictures of the G37 and noticed some similarities in body styling to the new Nissan Maxima. Specifically, the shape of the hood and front fenders. It seems the new look puts emphasis on gentle curves and also the impression the body is sort of draped over the engine compartment so it "sags" into the low spots. I don't think this would do well for the Z. Oddly, the G37 headlights do not have the funny boomerang shape. You would think the company would maintain the theme across brands and models.

Actually, it's more surprising that they use the same look across the brands since the whole point of having a different brand is to break the perceived connection. The new 'liquid motion' style is very muscular and agressive, but also kind of 'bulge-y'. I like it for the most part. As for the headlights, it looks to be more of a Nissan thing, but the new Murano doesn't have the wing on the headlight. When you see the 370Z, I'm willing to bet that it looks a little less fluid, but similarly muscular with the same kind of wrap-around, swept back (but in the 370'z case, more angled and angry, like the S2000) headlight treatment. Actually, now that I say that, the new 370Z will probably look a lot like a cross between an S2000 and 350Z in terms of stance, size and market.

The only similarities I see between the Maxima & G37 is the hood and the interior...that's it.

Infiniti is a luxury company...so theoretically, they are suppose to be exclusive and stray away from being too similar to Nissan. Too bad Nissan isn't doing a great job keeping Infiniti exclusive. It looks like they got lazy on creating a new theme for the interior of the Maxima and stuck with Infiniti's design; not a smart move.

toyota and lexus cars looked similiar for a while too. espescially the older camry and es300. ford & mercury do the same as well. im sure it hurts they bite each other sales, but winds up being the same one company collecting anyway ie..nissan etc.

I think the boomerang theme has been on the drawing books only recently so it's probably a matter of time before it carries itself to the entire lineup if they do go ahead with it. The G37 could be the next one to redesign with the boomerangs, although I think that might not happen for a while since it's a fairly recent model, and if you look at the front it looks like it sort of has boomerang lights already...

there are a handful of G37S's (what does the S stand for?) at my work already. They make me jealous but honestly look like a larger G35. Some of the body accents are smoothed off for more of "luxury" look. 19" rims with Infinity BBK is an improvement. Calipers are equal to a Brembo but have Infiniti stamped on them & larger rotors than the G35. Over and above i would say it is a cross between the G35 4 door and the G35 2door. Very nice car in person especially.

One thing that can't be compared will be performance the heavier but more luxurious G37 won't be able to run with the lighter same powered 370Z, not in the twisties or in the quarter. Looks are only a part of the equation I'm looking for an overall better performance car then the present very satisfying model I'm driving now.

The Nisimo has already out ran the latest Honda S2k on longer track tied it on a tight track the 370Z will smoke it. Of course the S2k must be a bad a$$ 4 clylinder Sports car to be even mentioned as much as it is on a 350Z forum.

if it's anything like the sedan, the S is for Sports, which means it comes with some or all of these items: vlsd, larger brakes and rotors, stiffer suspension, larger rims, sportier seats, i'm sure you can look all this up at their website

the g37 should've been a car that clearly outperforms the sedan, but it's so dang heavy, i guess if luxury is what you want, that's what you'll have to live with, otherwise, get the z

because of its weight the g37 is similar in performance to the 07+ 350z. If the 370Z is really gonna be lighter than our current Z and have the 3.7 engine...the g37 doesn't stand a chance. But i don't think Infiniti cares because the g37 seems to be more about luxury which is fine.

The only problem with the Z coming with the 3.7 is it's going to be awhile before it does.

Around a year probably till we see the new model come out.

G37 got more heavy than the already heavy G35. Reason why I don't even think about getting the g37 at all. Z is more sporty and also I like the fact that its small and light. Not the most lightest 2 seater out there but good enough.

As for look-alikes. Loads of cars that have came out look so much alike. Hyundais also now with their Sonata looking like a Accord. I always thought, if your going to buy a car, buy one that is not so ordinary(unique) than the majority of the plain cars on the road. Buying a car that has the almost same shape for 2 different companys doesn't make it rare but makes it ordinary.

Anyways.. ppw z ftw.

this is slightly off topic but what are the official quarter mile times? Everytime i searched the times are unofficial and the time seems to be about 14 sec at around 103? If these times are true, doesnt that make the 07 Zs still faster? 07s clock 13.7 (avg) at 104. With 30 more hp the g37 is still slower?

it's slower because it's so much heavier. 30hp isn't much when you add on like 400+ pounds.

An 07 350Z weighs about 3200-3300 Lbs. A G37 weighs 3668 Lbs. You do math. Plus, the VQ35HR and the VQ37VHR output roughly the same numbers, with the 3.7 edging out slightly. The 3.7 in the new 09 Z is gonna be a monster.

But the New Z is supposed to be markedly smaller than the current Z. So maybe even more of a blowout for the G.

people have been getting 13.3's with the spare tire and jack out. also racing seats have improved times also. so its just a bit faster or even with the 350z models with back seats

The only thing that scares me about this 370 is that people like me who are 6'4'' won't be able to fit in it. I can't fit in the s2000!
