370Z Roadster Challenges
I've seen a couple posts now that point out how the 370 effectively removes the sport coupe shape and replaces it with a "fast back" rear. The sport coupe shape was something I picked up on right away the first time I saw the 350 years ago and remains a big part of what attracts me to the car. The 350 is a hatchback but retains the shape of a coupe.
It will be interesting to see how Nissan will make the 370 into a roadster convertible with that enormous back end. I suspect they are being challenged to do so, which is why the 2009 roadster is not a 370. Perhaps they will ditch plans for a convertible altogether with the 370 as I think it would look pretty weird and they are probably realizing it, too.
I'm hoping the next gen Z will return to being a sport coupe.

I dunno...Edmunds' photoshop of a 370Z vert sure does look nice. But to simplify your words, the concern here is that the taillights are too high-up on the car, which would make retaining the same look on the roadster an issue. Right?

Read your edit. Yes, I agree. I think they may have done an oops and are still working on a solution. Personally I think the roadster will need a folding hard top but that will add a lot of weight and expense if they do.
