Is the 370Z Manual the same as the 350Z manual, old 350 owners, please let me know
Hello All ... new to the Z community and I had a question ... is the 370Z Manual transmission the same as the 350Z ?
The reason I ask is I had driven a friends G35 Manual a couple of years ago and remember the stick having a heck of a vibration running through it.
The 09 370Z I drove yesterday without syncro rev match didn't have much vibration at all.
Did Nissan change the transmission or is it the same unit ...
BTW I really loved it driving that 370 ... it is one heck of a car !!!

Yes the 370Z clutch is softer, especially compared to the Nismo clutch in my 350Z. I think the 370Z transmission has slightly longer throws than the 350Z, but the 370Z transmission is much smoother and quieter than the 350Z transmission.

It's totally different. I bought my 350Z in 5AT because I hated the 6MT. But when driving the 370Z, there's no doubt I'd spring for the 6MT instead of the 7AT. It's a much better unit.

^ so you'd make the swap because of what? A less noisy gearbox and synchrorev?
The 7AT is far superior vs the 5AT. if anything, it would now be more 'accepted' by the MT junkies to grab a 7AT 370... espesially considering they're posting better 1/4th times heh.

Huh? Who cares about 5AT vs 7AT. I'm not trying to compare them. I'm making a point simply saying that I didn't like the 6MT in the 350Z because it was rough, the clutch feels bad, the shifter is clunky, the transmission is riddled with defect issues (3rd and 5th gear), and if you wanted an 06, you had a rev-up which meant you'd burn oil.
No crap, the 7AT is superior to a 5AT. But that has nothing to do with anything here. The OP asked if the 6MT in the 370Z is different, and I told him just how much different they are. So different that I'd have no hesitation buying one because it's better than the old 6MT.

I really don't find the 350z transmission to be that bad... having driven the 370 the clutch of the 350 is definitely harder to engage and you feel the gears more, I personally like this.. but to each their own.
the 370z transmission is smoother, so much so that I personally didn't feel like I was driving a sports car... but more so a luxury model, imo the less you feel the less connection to the car... synchrorev is a great feature... if you can't do it on your own / don't want to at times, i'm sure that'll save a lot of first timers / inexperianced people some serious maladjustments/throttle blipping/ and unexpected hard catching lol.
In summary, the 370z manual felt like my buddies lincoln... and less like my 350(and similar models I drive that belong to my friends (cobra, tt 300, e3 m3).... but I don't make it a habit of driving the *newest* manual transmission cars because I am not shopping on the market for one, perhaps this is simply the way 'things are going'?

Thanks for the responses ... my main complaint with the G35 was the vibration that came through the stick ... it just had too much feel. At the time I had a BMW 330i so maybe I was used to that stick which had very little vibration.
The new g37 and the 370z did not have this vibration.

It still vibrates like the 350 did but only a little less. What is most noticeable between the two, is the 370 is less notchy, which means smoother shifts. The 370 throws are a bit longer, but the stick also feels a bit longer, which could explain the longer throws. But it is still as clunky and noisy as the 350 outside the car.

i had a g35 now the 370, tranny is def very similar..
and those that commented are right.. a little less vibration, throw out still gets annoyingly noisey, and its def smoother with a lighter clutch...
No complaints though... I may do a short shifter just to see how it is with that, I like that there are adjustable short shifters available..

it should bolt to an HR since it is the same bottom end block (stroked 4.6mm) if you change the bellhousings you should be able to bolt it to the revup and older... havent taken one apart yet... no issues with 370s... just sales effen up convertable tops and customers complaining of no sound from rear speakers... um there isnt any (except for bose models)
