Question Replaced Stock Seats w/Aftermarket, cant get top down...

Anyone replaced your stock seats with Aftermarket ones…? If so do you have problems putting your top down. Just got my car back from the shop and the top is screwed…

They could not get it to go up, and finally after getting it up, they say it will not go down because there is some safety feature form Nissan. Supposedly if the Convertible top mechanism does not get the message from the passenger seat that it has moved the seat forward… It will not allow the top to go down…

Anyone have any ideas or seen this before.

Thanks.

I do remember reading that the seats in the convertibles move slightly forward on the headrest section of the seat to allow for the top to pass by without clearance issues.

It will obviously require a bit of work, but you may be able to find out what that signal is and emulate it when the top is going down.

There was a switch behind the passenger seat to stop the seat from moving. You might want to look for the connection for that switch and and just short them together.

Just a thought though...

Try this..

Short the P and B/W wires to enable the "Seat back tilt cancel switch"
The B/W wire is Ground. So you can just short Pink to ground or throw a simple toggle switch on them.

See diagram here.

It probably has something to do with the steering wheel. You have to have your foot on the brake in order to operate the top so I guess they figure they don't want the seat smashing you into the steering wheel

Passenger seats leans foward so if you have a tall passenger the roof won't hit there head as it lowers. The reason the drivers seat does not do it, is because you lean forward when you go to push and hold the button down.

Agree. In fact I was thinking that the Nissan engineers are really smart when they decided to place the top operating switch where it is so they don't need additional cost to make the driver seat move.

Dude, thanks man, that makes a lot of sense. I will take a look at it as soon as I get back from this business trip. I hope it works, it sort of sucks to have a convertible if you can't take the top down.
