Cheap imtation of the brickyard... Brick was a classic color and first year run only. This only degrades the unique brickyard image in the Z line. Sad... very sad.
Ask the 240Z crowd & they will tell you the 300TT & 350Z's only degrade the 240Z & are very sad. Of course, this all just a matter of opinion.

Jeff,
Those guys are not true car people then if they are that narrow minded. I am also a 240Z owner and I love my '77 and '78 280Z's/ I also like my '81 and '82 280ZX hardtops. In addition I like my '86 300Zx hardtop. Lastly, I enjoy my '03base model brickyard red Z.
The real point here is that I also like my '85 RX-7 GSL-SE and my '91 Mustang GT. If I had the time, money, and space I would own alot more cars like a Jaguar E-type coupe etc...
If you truly love cars then you are not restricted to just one make and one model so when the 240Z crowd looks sideways at the Z32 and Z33 just take their opinions with a grain of salt. Most 240Z owners will probably learn to like the later Z models as they become older. For example a friend of mine is a staunch early S30 fan and had no use for Nissan when the L-series engine was replaced by the VG30 in 1984. I loaned him one of my 86 300ZX hardtops for about three weeks and after that experience he was quite fond of the Z31 hardtop even though it has a VG30 engine as opposed to the L-series engine.
It's just a matter of exposure and unfortunately it is not easy for one to test drive an out of production Z car in a relaxed environment unless you have a friend that owns one and is willing to let it go for a few weeks as a loaner.
