Performance Tire Questions
I've knocked around on here quite a while back, but didn't post because I hadn't gotten a ZR...still haven't, but the time is very near. I've got a couple of questions that I hope I can get some answers to.
I haven't seen as many threads on the feathering issue, so I assume it has been resolved. Is that correct?
When I get the car it's not going to be a track car, but when I'm not on the motorcycle it might get some time on the twisties in the mountains. Under "reasonable" driving habits, what kind of mileage can I expect to get on the performance tires available for this car?
I appreciate the time and any info that you can give me.

Well, I think the answer will depend on what tires you get.
IE cheap performance tires might last considerably less then a more expensive set. This would also depend on if you have the car lowered and if you’re really out of alignment or have real heavy negative camber.
I've had my Toyo T1's for about 1 1/2 years now and they still look pretty much new. They have been used on mountain twisties a couple of times, dragged at MIR twice and I have been known to do some pretty aggressive burnouts/figure 8's on occasion too. On the other hand I only have about 9,000 miles on them so far.
My car is not lowered that much, camber is within alignment specs and I have it checked every 4 - 6 months.
I am about to drive cross-country and do the AKA Rally back. We will be doing some autocross and drag racing in-route, so I figure that will be the end of these tires. So another 6,000 Long/HARD miles and I figure the tires will have lost maximum gripping power.

I've got the oem Bridgestone's on my 04 roadster. 13,500 miles. Used 8 days at various track events at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen and Pocono. Usually average 130 miles a day on track.
Drive pretty aggressvely when not on track. Pretty decent wear so far. When these wear out will look into other tires with more grip on track when hot. My primary track car is a supercharged Miata. I use the Z when Miata is down or just feel the need for more power.
But, have no complaints with Bridgestones for normal (aggressive) street driving.

i respsect stock bridgestones. ive noticed when they're very hot they seem to be very slick and seem to chunk and bounce around alot. however i respect their hard sidewall and amazing lateral grip. they're so damn predictable.
Im getting new wheels/tires soon and i plan on going to falken 615's however, i want to try new ones out.

plumpzz,
I don't notice any slickness in the Bidgestines on the roads, But, on the track after a couple of sessions being stressed and heated up they seem to get greasy and lose grip. But, on the other hand this enables me to drift around some of the corners. Not the fastest way around (but still fun) you make the most of what you have.
Why did you choose the Falken's? I have been looking into tires for my Miata, my primary track car. Currently I have Toyo Proxe's ST1. But, they suffer from the same problem as the Bridgestones, getting slippery when really hot. I drive the Miata to the track, so I need a tire that will work in the rain and on the track. I've come across a few tires after reading reviews on Tire Rack but for the Miata, Falkens did'nt come up.
