Default Anyone know of any convertible top repair kits?

I have a slit next to the rear window and some little tears where the top folds just above the side windows. I should have taken better car of the top, but now what can I do. I would think there is patches or something.

Default Repairing a Top

When I had my Z someone slit my top near my window. First I superglued a patch to the back of the slit on the inside. I stopped by an upholostery place and got a patch from them. Once dry I then superglued the outside of the slit together and let dry. I then sanded down the outside where glue was using like 1,500 grit sandpaper. The glue was a different color so I went by an autobody supply store and got some vinyl paint that matched my top as best I could. I taped it up around it and sprayed lightly on the area. It didn't match exactly but it looked a lot better than it was. The upholostery place will probably tell you the top needs to be replaced. I was going to trade the car so I didn't want to replace the top as the other dealer wasn't going to give me any more for it. I kept the insurance money and traded the car. Might also want to check to see if your insurance company covers top replacements.

Get iron on patches, You can pick them up at any craft/sewing shop or in the sewing dept of any department store. The black will not be an exact match but won't be horrible.

Cut it at least 1/4" larger all around than the size of the hole. Use a very small amount of glue, like an Elmers in addition to the adhesive already on the patch. Put 1 patch on the outside and if you can access the hole on the underside iron another patch there as well. This will prevent the hole from getting bigger and keep the elements from geting in.

I own a bunch of convertible and have always had convertibles and this fix has worked pretty well when needed.

Just be carefull given our top has nylon in it and its probably more suseptible to melt then fabric.

Re:melting the top.
Make sure to keep the iron only on the patch. If you do that melting is not an issue. Also, when ironing, keep the iron on the patch for short periods. Don't try to get it to adhere in one shot. If the iron does touch the top itself it won't do any harm if only for a brief period.
