im going to be in 2nd year housing apartments at my college next year, and they dont have parking structures near the area, so my car is going to be sitting outside in the weather for the most part. i can always wash the car on a weekly basis and all, but should I get a cover anyway? It's mostly sunny down in irvine.

The one from the dealer is awesome. It fits perfect and it has a huge Z to show off.

+1. The Nissan cover is water resistant not waterproof. The breathable materail one key advantage: condensation evaporates through the cover. My car is covered anytime it is not being driven. At home and at work.

Covercraft makes custom car covers in variety of fabrics. I have their Technalon/Evolution custom cover for my Z Roadster, and it fits great.

Here's a link to their website for more info:

Good price. Courtesy Nissan has the cover for $200. Just make sure they are giving you the all-weather cover not the $130 cheapee.

I wash mine in a front loading commercial washing machine. A cover lasts me about 24 months. The limiting factor is ultra violet light damage.

Here are the instructions that came with my weathershield Nissan cover.

Powder detergent (NO BLEACH)
Wash on "Normal Cycle" or "permanent press".
Cold or warm water. NO HOT WATER.
Run cover through TWO rinse cycles. It's important to remove all detergent.
Then dry in dryer on "permanent press". NO FABRIC SOFTNER.

You can also place the cover on your car inside out and rinse with a hose, then let dry.

For soiled areas, wash by hand with a water/detergent mix.

I found some decent ones from empire. This cover was a replacement cover for a custom cover that cost three times as much and started leaking water and collecting dust under the cover in less than a year. My Empire cover is 4 months old, has survived numerous strong thunderstorms and seering Texas sun, and so far is exceeding my expectations. I have 3 cars under cover, soon the other two will be covered by Empire.
