Default Engine performance question

All,

I am slowly apporaching the 30,000 mile mark on my 04 MT ZR. I have noticed over the past 2K miles or so that at around 70mph, I am at about 2800 rpm in 6th gear. To me this seems a bit excessive and I am not able to pull the exact performance numbers out of the manuals. I would think the engine would be closer to the 2000-2200 mark at this speed.

Anyone noticed / observed their's to be close to this. If not, next time out, take a look for me to compare. I am going to be getting her in early for a tune, but wanted some information from others before the dealer gives me the wrong info. Thanks guys.

thats about right. Another roadster and i just did a small road trip together. he has a twin turbo set up though. At 73 mph i was at 3k rpm and so was he. i'd say your OK.

I was thinking it was kinda high as well so when we were driving i called him and asked what his RPM's where at. I'm not sure how many miles are on his Z but i've got about 22k.

This is normal - and by the way, has nothing to do with the number of miles on a car. The Z is geared somewhat 'short'.

This is not a “roadster” unique question. Plug in the numbers here: http://www.wallaceracing.com/calcmph.php

As mentioned before its the gearing of our cars. It is very short compared to alot of other cars. we have sports cars so the priority is to accelerate, not gas milage.
