dumbass drunk friend opened top while driving!!!
ok fellas me an a buddy of mine were driving home from a friends and dumbass decieded to try and open my top while i was driving, my top flew up and i quickly grabbed it to hold it down and quickly pulled over.. now my problem is when i close it it shuts but doesnt come down all the way i have to pull and hold then latch it up.. anyone else ever had this problem?? any way to fix??
No, never had this problem b/c the top doesn't actuate while the car is in motion.
Did you disconnect the safety mechanisms that stop this from happening? The only way to open the top - while moving - is to have your foot on the brake while going under ~5mph.

It sounds as if his friend unlatched the top while driving. I have seen this closer than I would have liked to about four years ago. The guy was doing about 55 when they unlatched the roof on a Firebird, and it went straight back. I almost wrecked laughing so hard.
Back to the story though, it sounds like you might have bent some of the frame for the top, for which the only real fix is to replace it. Barring you finding a good used replacement, you are looking at $4K+ to fix this.

Unfortunately doing what your friend did at speed will bend one or more of the roof's frame rails... I know because my frame rails were bent by people trying to force the roof down when they first tried to "fix" my roof's closure problems.
My dealer first tried to bend the A-frame a few degrees to get it to seat properly, but eventually had to replace the entire frame assembly - and then put the A-frame back in spec - so unless you know a good body shop that deals with alot of Zs and can align the roof's frame again, this is one repair that is not going to be cheap.
This is one company I saw online that could probably do it for you: http://www.prestigemobileupholstery....le_top_install
You can at least see how the frame fits under the roof in the pics - they are an hour away from SD up in L.A.
The other route would be that IF your friend can claim it on his insurance, Mossy Nissan in Clairemont could do the repair - the specialist there who takes care of the ZR's is named Nick. He did a great job on my car, but I wouldn't let anyone else touch your ZR with a 10 foot pole.
I'm sorry to hear that your friend chose to act like an idiot - but that's what alcohol does to some people - I live in SD too so feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Nick is a good guy. He was the one who got three tops replaced for me, if I were in San Diego now, he would be the one I'd go to.
As for bending the frame back, I would not. The frame is cast, and it will only weaken it if you bend it back. It is not designed to bend back and forth. If it is bent, have it replaced. If your friend does not cough up the money, I would be looking at small claims. The sooner you do it, the better.

Ztarded,
I talked to Nick yesterday about your car - the good news is that he still works at Mossy Nissan and has seen/repaired your problem before. Damon is my service advisor now - he has been there the longest, knows his stuff, and is an all around great guy.
I would give them a call if your friend has figured out how he is going to pay.
Good Luck!
