Default Roadster top in socal

About a year ago I replaced the cloth (Robbins) on my roadster's top, now the motor for the 5th bow failed. I bought a used top from an auto dismantler that I'm having new cloth put on. So I'll have a complete top that has a year old cloth that needs a new 5th bow assembly, $277.00 at courtesyparts.

I should have the new one on in a few weeks. I may just replace the 5th bow myself and sell it that way.

Is there a guide on here to show how to replace the 5th bow motor?? I mean with pics, not the one from the service manual?

Tsb is for not closing, mine won't open, I hear it unlatch and that's it. I slowly lift it by hand (the 5th bow) untill it's fully up then the hatch opens but the bow will not drop into the storage bay, at this point if I close it the bow will motor down and the hatch latches shut.

I found one of the ball joints that the motor actuator uses to move the bow up and down was really loose and prior to it failing I was having an intermitant issue of the top binding when opening as it was folding into the storage bay. I think the loose ball joint caused the failure, the bow motor may be repairable but if I was going to keep the top I'd just replace it.

I'm replacing the cloth on the used top I got with Stayfast canvas rather than the twill material that's stock, it costs a little more but I'm told it looks better.

the tsb if i recall correctly i cant remember its been a while and the Marines have made me forget details sometimes. but if you hold the button and hear the latch open and pull up on the 5th bow it will open the rest of the way. i had one do that and turned out to be the cable that retracts everythign got fubar.
